The Whitney is proud to participate in the 2018 ReelAbilities Film Festival, the first of its kind to present award-winning films by and about people with disabilities. Screenings take place at multiple venues throughout the New York metropolitan area, and each is followed by discussions that bring together the community to explore, discuss, embrace, and celebrate the diversity of our shared human experience.
Bottom Dollars (2016)
The 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act created the revolutionary workers’ rights protection: the minimum wage. Yet as the film uncovers, Section 14(c) still provides a terrible and abusive exemption that allows employers to pay “special minimum wages”—wages less than the Federal minimum wage—“to workers who have disabilities.”
The screening will be followed by a moderated discussion with director Jordan Melograna.
