An event every day that begins at 8:00 pm, repeating until November 18, 2017
November 16th-18th, 8PM
AXIS Dance Company celebrates its 30th anniversary and first New York Season with the premieres of Radical Impact, a commissioned work by newly appointed Artistic Director Marc Brew; The Reflective Surface, a new work by guest choreographer Amy Seiwert; and an excerpt from In Defense of Regret, collectively choreographed by Maurya Kerr, Alex Ketley, and Bobbi Jene Smith.
Marc Brew’s Radical Impact was created in collaboration with Composer/Pianist JooWan Kim, Artistic Director of Hip-Hop Orchestra Ensemble Mik Nawooj. Working together for the first time, Marc and Joowan explore what it means to be human through music and movement, investigating themes around politics and identity. The work draws on each dancer’s unique experiences and how their stories can be told through the medium of dance.
Bay Area choreographer Amy Seiwert pushes AXIS to a new level of rigor with her new work The Reflective Surface. Featuring an original score by Darren Johnston, this work begins with a ballet foundation which is transformed through Seiwert’s unique quirkiness, kineticism, and layered partnering.
In Defense of Regret rejects dance created through graphic or architectural vantage points to prioritize movement as a map of our interior landscapes. An excerpt of Alex Ketley’s contribution to the work is featured.
