ASL-Interpreted Demonstrations during Kids Week

Kids Week is back, and moving full STEAM ahead! Children of all ages and interests will learn about science, technology, engineering, arts and math through fun-filled activities, live animal shows, hands-on workshops, performances, special guests and interactive demonstrations designed to educate and inspire.

Families and individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing are invited to attend for free on Saturday, February 19, for American Sign Language-interpreted presentations, demonstrations and workshops. Advance registration is required. Register here.

Schedule

Noon – Intrepid Museum Education Demonstration: Poof! Life in a Vacuum

Discover the importance of the Earth’s atmosphere is and why astronauts need to wear spacesuits. Using a bell jar and vacuum pump, Museum educators will mimic the vacuum of space and its effect on objects.

1:00pm – Mad Science Presents Big Top Science

Come one, come all and behold a series of Physics demonstrations that includes an activity that explains why a bed of nails is a good night sleep. Recommended for ages 5+

2:00pm-3:00pm – Intrepid Museum Education Workshop: Robotic Arm

Design a simple device to move an object in space!

3:00pm – Mad Science Presents Big Top Science

Come one, come all and behold a series of Physics demonstrations that includes an activity that explains why a bed of nails is a good night sleep. Recommended for ages 5+

ASL interpretation, with limited free admission, is also available for Saturday, February 19, and Wednesday, February 23. Advance registration is required:

 

Health and Safety Guidelines:

All visitors must follow the Museum’s health and safety guidelines. Following the City of New York’s Key to the City mandate, all visitors ages 5 and older will be required to show proof they have received two vaccine doses (except for those who have received the one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine), as well as identification, before entering the Museum. Please bring proof and ID with you to the program.
