ASL-Interpreted Demonstrations during Kids Week

Kids Week is back, and moving full STEAM ahead! Children of all ages and interests will learn about science, technology, engineering, arts and math through fun-filled activities, live animal shows, hands-on workshops, performances, special guests and interactive demonstrations designed to educate and inspire.

Families and individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing are invited to attend for free on Saturday, February 19, for American Sign Language-interpreted presentations, demonstrations and workshops. Advance registration is required. Register here.

Schedule

11:30am – Intrepid Museum Educator Talk: Mars: NASA’s Journey to the Red Planet

Join us as we present Mars as a mythological object, a cultural phenomenon, and a scientific endeavor. Discover how the Red Planet has captured our imagination, and what it means for our future.

Noon – Intrepid Museum Education Demonstration: Airheads: The Science of Flight

Explore the science behind aviation in this demonstration about how things fly!

1:00pm – Presentation by NASA Astronaut Victor J. Glover, Jr.

Learn about life in space from NASA Astronaut, Victor J. Glover, Jr. Recommended for all ages

2:00pm-3:00pm – Intrepid Museum Education Workshop: Rovers

Build your own rover to help prepare for scientific exploration of Mars!

3:00pm – Presentation by NASA Astronaut Victor J. Glover, Jr.

Learn about life in space from NASA Astronaut, Victor J. Glover, Jr. Recommended for all ages

3:30pm – Intrepid Museum Educator Talk: Is There Anyone Out There?: The Search for Life in the Cosmos.

Explore the possibilities for life to exist in the universe. Where could we find it? It may be closer than you think.

ASL interpretation, with limited free admission, is also available for Wednesday, February 23, and Saturday, February 26. Advance registration is required:

 

Health and Safety Guidelines:

All visitors must follow the Museum’s health and safety guidelines. Following the City of New York’s Key to the City mandate, all visitors ages 5 and older will be required to show proof they have received two vaccine doses (except for those who have received the one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine), as well as identification, before entering the Museum. Please bring proof and ID with you to the program. Please review the FAQ below for a list acceptable forms of proof of vaccination and ID.
