American Sign Language Storefront Stories Walking Tour

July 22, 2015 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

A Deaf educator will lead the Storefront Stories tour in American Sign Language. Visitors will explore Orchard Street. For more than a century, Orchard Street has been the heart of the Lower East Side’s historic shopping district. Explore this vibrant community of small businesses, and compare the experiences of immigrant entrepreneurs in the past and present. Visit the site of the iconic Eckstein’s clothing store, where generations of New Yorkers haggled for deals, as well as the neighborhood’s present-day boutiques and galleries. The tour will be given in ASL only with no spoken English translation. The tour will be an hour and a half long, followed by a reception featuring local Lower East Side foods.
