Organizational Summary:

Playwrights Horizons is a writer’s theater and a theater school, both dedicated to the support,

development and innovation of contemporary U.S. playwrights from all backgrounds and communities, and to the production of their new work. Playwrights Horizons also runs a multidisciplinary theater training studio at New York University.

Marketing and Audience Services Manager

Position Summary:

The Accessibility Services Assistant will act as the first point of contact for accessible patrons for each post-opening performance. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build production script slides for the GalaPro app utilizing best practices and ensuring the sound and lighting design elements are strategically incorporated with the goal of creating the best experience for Deaf/Hoh audience members. 
  • Act as the manual pusher for the GalaPro app on a nightly basis for the duration of each production run (post-opening), production run extension (when approved by General Management) and for designated Audience Services accessible events.   
  • Communicate with the Audience Services Manager regarding accessibility issues or concerns not addressed at performance.
  • Confer with the Audience Services Manager to ensure any script changes are updated in the GalaPro app, when necessary.
  • Ensure assistive technology, such as tablets and headphones are charged, operational and checked-out and in per Front Of House policy. 
  • Provide a nightly list of patrons that check out devices and/or utilize accessible offerings to the Audience Services Manager. 
  • Relay patron feedback regarding accessibility services to the Audience Services Manager, when necessary.
  • Will work with Audience Services Manager to ensure knowledge of accessibility standards, various assistive technologies trends, best practices, and requirements are understood and always practiced.
  • Assist with membership signup of our Access Passport in Lobby before designated performances.
  • Assist audience members with Disabilities at institutional events.
  • Provide companion service when requested by audience members.
  • Utilize the Tessitura CRM database to manage and update relevant customer records, when necessary.
  • Support Front of House staff when needed and act as a team player. 

Skills & Experience Requirements 

  • Advanced awareness of Accessibility Services in a Theater which include but are not limited to: ASL Interpretation, Closed Captioning, Live Captioning, Relaxed Performances, ALD&DLD Device and System Management, Audio Description etc…

Resources Provided

  • This role will have access to:
    •  a 15’ MacBook Pro while on-site at Playwrights Horizons.
    • an access key card
    • a standing and sitting workstation

Compensation:

This position is part-time and will be compensated at an hourly rate of $21 during our production season.
