SUMMARY:Textile Medley: Amanda Martínez and Danaleah Schoenfuss in conversation
DESCRIPTION:Join Intertwine Arts for a series of talks wherein we invite artists we admire to describe their textile influences. Each medley will involve sharing artwork as well as a discussion of the intersections and divergences of two artists and their craft and experiences. In this lunchtime series we’ll explore each artist’s creative process\, discuss how the two artists’ interweave\, and finally provide opportunity for discussion and questions. Register to receive a link to the Zoom meeting and a captioned recording of the program. \nSuggested Donation: $10 \n  \nAbout Amanda Martínez \nAmanda Martínez (b. 1988\, Greenville\, SC) completed her B.F.A. at Kansas City Art Institute. Recent solo exhibitions include “Labor”\, Pittsburgh\, PA (2023); “querencia”\, Hesse Flatow\, NY (2022) and “Architecture of Desire”\, as part of Aichi Triennale at Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art\, Nagoya\, Japan (2019). In 2020 she completed a public art commission at 125 Maiden Lane\, New York\, NY with Art In Buildings. Martínez has lately lectured as a visiting artist at University of Missouri\, School of Visual Arts\, George Washington University and Pratt Institute. In 2019 she curated “Objects of Desire” at Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Brooklyn\, NY and in 2021 contributed “Tamales as an open system” to the publication “You Stir the Pot: Recipes for Change” organized by Victoria Manganiello with support from Taiwan Craft Research Institute. She has work in the public collections of Francis J. Greenberger and Woodhull Hospital. Her first artist book “Lazos que unen” designed and hand bound by Sarah Smith and published by Stock Pile\, Brooklyn NY was released this year. Martínez has been awarded grants by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and the Autistic Women & Non-Binary Network along with past residencies in Wassaic\, NY\, Kansas City\, MO by the Charlotte Street Foundation and Truth or Consequences\, NM. \nRecent press for Martínez’s work includes Surface Magazine\, The New Yorker\, The New York Times and other outlets. Martínez is autistic and founded Autistic Artist Alliance in 2022\, an online community for autistic artists to challenge stereotypes and advocate for greater representation\, autonomy and dignity. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn\, NY. \nYou can see some of her amazing work by clicking here! \n  \nAbout Danaleah Schoenfuss \nDanaleah Schoenfuss is a lifelong crafter\, artist\, and arts worker\, who has explored a variety of mediums ranging from clay\, to wirework\, to weaving. Her work has been featured in two exhibitions\, including “Sensory Weaving” at Loop of the Loom and “Museum Workers Create” at the King Manor Museum. Her employment has ranged from The American Museum of Natural History to the New York Transit Museum to the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. Her work explores themes of playfulness\, subverting professionalism\, nostalgia\, neurodivergence\, and a strong DIY and found object sensibility. SUMMARY:Vibrant Verbal Description Tour: Belle Epoque
DESCRIPTION:Every month\, Poster House offers virtual Vibrant Verbal Description Tours specifically for community members who are blind or have low vision. \nIn order to reach a wide\, art-loving audience around the world\, we offer our description tours online through Zoom. These tours are led by our Chief Curator\, allowing you intimate access to the items in our current shows and permanent collection. \nThis month’s tour will focus on the Belle Epoque. \nPlease email access@posterhouse.org or call ‪914.295.2387 to sign up for this event.
