SUMMARY:Brasil Summerfest With Gilsons
DESCRIPTION:Presented in association with Brasil Summerfest \nFor the past 13 years\, Brasil Summerfest has brought the music and flavor of Brazil to New York City with an array of audio\, arts\, and special events that highlight the beauty and diversity of South America’s biggest exporter of cultural excellence. Brazilian Music Award-winning trio Gilsons are a family band of the highest pedigree. Francisco\, João\, and José Gil are respectively the sons and grandsons of the legendary Gilberto Gil. The band blends pop rock\, samba\, rap and Bahian rhythms\, but draws particular inspiration from MPB\, Gilberto’s chief métier. SUMMARY:Musical Theater Storytime with Mama Foundation for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:Presented in collaboration with The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts \nSince 1983\, Vy Higginsen’s musical\, Mama\, I Want To Sing! has entertained audiences around the world with its joyful celebration of gospel music and the people who make it. The success of the musical led to the creation of Mama Foundation for the Arts\, a Harlem-based non-profit organization with a two-decade history of presenting\, preserving\, and promoting African American arts and inspiring generations of musical leaders. In this storytime aimed at kids 0-6\, Mama Foundation offers a sample of this learning experience. Kids will learn songs and practice singing together and individually. \nLincoln Center celebrates summer in New York City as our free Storytime series returns to The Garden at Damrosch Park—and this year due to popular demand\, we have scheduled a second event every Wednesday! Curated by The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts\, this Storytime event presents a children’s book reading with live musical theater incorporated to keep kids of all ages enraptured and engaged! \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Guest Experience at 212-875-5456 or guestexperience@lincolncenter.org. \nThe event at 1:00 pm will include American Sign Language interpretation

SUMMARY:Toshi Reagon's Songs of the Living: Freedom Songs
DESCRIPTION:Over the past several years\, the ever-expansive singer-songwriter Toshi Reagon has explored questions of fellowship and activism with Lincoln Center programs that have united professional singers with audience members through shared performance\, most notably in her innovative and participatory opera based on the work of author Octavia Butler\, The Parable of the Sower. Reagon’s program this year is a continuation of her Songs of the Living Community Choir project\, and the Parable Path. This iteration of Songs of the Living is centered on freedom songs: drawing from 200 years of Black Music in collaboration with music across the global African Diaspora. This Juneteenth concert will be rooted in music Toshi learned as a child growing up during the Southern Freedom Movement which expanded into the 20th century American Civil Rights Movement and other revolutions in international human history. Reagon’s multitudinous and intergenerational choir is supported by her band BIGLovely and joined by an array of special guests to be announced. It is a collaborative concert that first and foremost acknowledges the ongoing fight for justice and equality that is our necessary struggle and birthright. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Guest Experience at 212-875-5456 or guestexperience@lincolncenter.org. \n\n\n\nWill include American Sign Language interpretation and open captioning.

SUMMARY:Black Swan
DESCRIPTION:Natalie Portman gives a virtuosic\, Oscar-winning turn as Nina Sayers\, a sheltered but intensely driven young dancer with a ballet company in New York City\, on the verge of getting her big break: a chance to perform the dual role of the Black and White Swans in the company’s production of Swan Lake. When the talented\, worldly Lily (Mila Kunis) joins the company\, Nina fears that her own claim to the role could be in jeopardy\, and begins to experience hallucinations\, buckling under the compounding pressures and expectations imposed by the dance company’s icy\, egomaniacal artistic director (Vincent Cassel); her mother (Barbara Hershey)\, herself a former ballerina\, with whom Nina shares a claustrophobic city apartment; and her embittered predecessor\, the company’s recently ousted prima ballerina (Winona Ryder). Leaning into the expressionistic\, velvety chiaroscuro of Matthew Libatique’s 16mm cinematography\, director Darren Aronofsky conjures an almost uncanny\, starkly forbidding vision of Manhattan\, hinting that the punishing\, cutthroat conditions that animate Nina’s insular professional milieu are of a piece\, perhaps\, with the world that extends beyond the theater walls. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Guest Experience at 212-875-5456 or guestexperience@lincolncenter.org. \n\nAudio Description available\, providing live description for guests who are blind or have low vision through receivers and headsets
