SUMMARY:Over My Head I Hear Freedom in the Air
DESCRIPTION:A one-night-only celebration of the profound legacy of Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon\, Over My Head\, I Hear Freedom In the Air brings together live music and personal testimonies\, to honor one of America’s most singular creative and intellectual voices\, curated by her daughter and collaborator Toshi Reagon. Performer\, composer\, historian\, and founder of the a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock\, Dr. Reagon spent more than five decades at the intersection of art and activism. A child of Southwest Georgia\, Dr. Reagon came of age singing in the Civil Rights Movement\, first as a member of the SNCC Freedom Singers in the 1960s. A leading authority in African-American cultural history and a Presidential Medal honoree\, Dr. Reagon produced more than two dozen albums and co-composed three operas with Toshi Reagon: including Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower. The evening features appearances by artists and activists including Angela Davis\, Lizz Wright\, Alexis Pauline Gumbs and The Original SNCC Freedom Singers; presented in collaboration with Wise Reagon Arts.

SUMMARY:Urban Love Suite
DESCRIPTION:Urban Love Suite is a joy-filled\, rhythmically infectious love letter celebrating the cultural connections between Black and Brown communities worldwide\, from Dakar to Havana\, from New Orleans to Chicago\, to New York City’s Harlem\, South Bronx\, and San Juan Hill. This vibrant evening-length work\, created in collaboration with the artists of Sekou McMiller & Friends\, draws on African diasporic traditions from salsa and mambo\, jazz\, house\, stepping\, and Black social and street dance forms. Propelled by the pulse of live music\, the work traces the rhythms and human experiences that transcend barriers\, exploring the connections\, divergences\, and shared histories among Afro-Latin\, Afro-Caribbean\, and African-American experiences. Urban Love Suite dances from the past into the future\, celebrating a reunion of cultures with a renewed sense of oneness.

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: Hannah Garner | 2nd Best Dance Company
DESCRIPTION:Slumber (2027) is a commission of the Pasculano Collaborative for Contemporary Dance. The development of Slumber (2027) was supported by a Works & Process residency at Catskill Mountain Foundation. \nAn evening-length work by Hannah Garner’s 2nd Best Dance Company\, Slumber (2027) walks the fuzzy line between dance and play in an exploration of the well-known story about waiting: Sleeping Beauty. The work counters the perception that waiting is a passive state; wonders how we make meaning; and questions what is valued in live performance and\, subsequently\, what is valued in life itself. 2nd Best Dance Company is an NYC-based dance-theater company that creates\, performs\, and teaches physically rigorous\, sometimes virtuosic\, and almost always slapstick dance plays. This is their love letter to performing. \nMember Pre-sale: October 28 at noon\nGeneral On-sale: November 4 at noon \nNot a Friend of Lincoln Center? SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: Juilliard Dance
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Pasculano Collaborative for Contemporary Dance \nPresented in collaboration with The Juilliard School \nCelebrate 75 years of the Juilliard Dance division in an evening of select repertory that spotlights the extraordinary students and legacy of Juilliard Dance\, as part of the Lincoln Center Contemporary Dance Festival. Under the leadership of Dean and Director Melissa Toogood\, Juilliard Dance develops artists of the 21st century trained in ballet\, modern\, and contemporary dance forms. With the establishment of the dance division in 1951\, Juilliard became the first major teaching institution to combine equal instruction in both modern and ballet techniques. In the four-year dance program\, which leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree\, students learn the great dance traditions of both past and present and enjoy unparalleled opportunities to work with today’s leading choreographers and perform both new and existing repertory. \n  \nMember Pre-sale: October 28 at noon\nGeneral On-sale: November 4 at noon \nNot a Friend of Lincoln Center? SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: La vie secrète des vieux (The Secret Life of Old People)
DESCRIPTION:*Please note: This performance contains adult themes. It also features atmospheric smoke\, fog\, or haze. Audience discretion is advised.  \n  \nDoes growing old mean the end of love? On a ballroom dance floor\, seven elderly men and women speak openly about love\, intimacy\, and sexuality\, directly challenging taboos about aging. Drawing on verbatim testimonies gathered from seniors between the ages of 75 to 102\, La vie secrète des vieux (The Secret Life of Old People)\, described by The Guardian as “gallows humor and unzipped ribaldry… joyful\, tender and sometimes eye-watering\,” is a humorous and deeply moving documentary theater work that constructs a lucid and disarming portrait of the reinvention of desire. French-Moroccan artist Mohamed El Khatib\, a leading voice in international theater\, maps a landscape of longing and gives proof to the promise that love can find a home within the fragility of life\, right up to the last moment. \nPerformed in French with English supertitles \nMember Pre-sale: October 28 at noon\nGeneral On-sale: November 4 at noon \nNot a Friend of Lincoln Center?
