SUMMARY:Voices of a People's History
DESCRIPTION:The works of Brooklyn-born author and historian Howard Zinn (1922–2010)\, particularly the classic bestsellers A People’s History of the United States and Voices of a People’s History of the United States\, continue to shine a light on the extraordinary history of those engaged in struggles for freedom and justice. This night of readings and musical performances—featuring actors Wallace Shawn\, Jessica Hecht\, and Arian Moayed\, comedian Hari Kondabolu\, musician Ali Dineen\, poet Staceyann Chin\, and other special guests to be announced—is inspired by author Dave Zirin’s acclaimed new biography The People’s Historian: The Outsized Life of Howard Zinn\, and will feature selections from Zinn’s own writing and speeches\, as well as work that deeply inspired him; narrated by Dave Zirin and Haley Pessin.

SUMMARY:The Precipice
DESCRIPTION:With the New York premiere of her bold new musical\, The Precipice\, composer\, lyricist\, and performer Miranda Ferriss Jones returns to Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium. As with her previous show\, Spiral Bound\, Miranda brings together a majority-women collective spanning generations and disciplines\, including Jones herself alongside Tony Award winner Laura Benanti. With The Precipice\, Jones asks the question\, “What will you do when they come for your wild?” This original\, feminist fairytale follows Iris and Polly\, daughters of Lady Midnight\, Goddess of Dreams. Each embodies half of their mother: Polly\, the dark\, and Iris\, the light. Separated on Earth and raised in vastly different worlds\, they reunite as teenagers and must fight to preserve their identities. This mythic coming-of-age tale affirms the greatest threat to an oppressive society is a sisterhood bound together by unbridled freedom and radical love.

SUMMARY:THE JAZMINES: a rage play – and for legal reasons\, a parody
DESCRIPTION:A finalist for the 2025 Eugene O’Neill Playwrights Conference\, THE JAZMINES: a rage play – and for legal reasons\, a parody takes place in a satirical multiverse of choice and cost. In THE JAZMINES\, brown artists compete for space in the American theater canon\, negotiating their professional wins with the loss of their personal relationships. Witness the Lincoln Center debut of this new work by author/star Jasmine Sharma (Twelfth Night) with music by composer Xander Browne and direction by Asmeret Ghebremichael (Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York\, The Notebook).

SUMMARY:makemake presents: Wholly Unwinding (A New Musical) - NYC Premiere
DESCRIPTION:Step through a portal where scars become songs and healing becomes a celebration. Blending folk concert\, musical\, immersive ritual\, and joyous dance party\, Wholly Unwinding transforms the audience into fellow travelers on a journey of radical self-discovery. Come ready to move\, sing\, and discover what becomes possible when every body belongs. \nWe all have scars. Some seen\, others hidden. Each tells a story\, a marker of an experience that\, though painful\, became part of us. What happens when we don’t just look at our scars\, but try to learn and grow through them\, honoring how they shaped who we are today? \nThe immersive experience opens with an art gallery curated from disabled artists in New York City and an offering of hands-on Alexander Technique somatic work\, the modality that Hailey credits with launching her healing experience. The audience crosses into the space through a sculpture portal built from the casts and medical devices Hailey wore in childhood. Led by Hogfish co-founder and Alexander Technique teacher Matt Cahill\, the experience of receiving hands-on Alexander Technique guidance continues throughout the piece for the cast and audience. At the end of Wholly Unwinding\, an inclusive dance party further breaks down barriers between cast and audience\, inviting people with and without disabilities to celebrate the joy of moving the bodies we have as one.
