DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 19\, 2025; 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.\nPerennial Garden  \nJoin Accessible Travel NYC for a joyful\, creative workshop that blends art\, learning\, and reflection through the lens of disability pride and inclusion. Set in the beauty of the Garden\, this interactive session welcomes disabled people\, families\, friends\, and allies to explore disability as identity\, expression\, and empowerment—through art. \nParticipants will choose from a wide variety of accessible\, colorful materials—heavy stock paper\, rocks\, stickers\, markers\, dot markers\, waxy sticks\, and more—to create pieces that reflect emotions like grief\, pride\, joy\, and hope. \nThe program space is wheelchair accessible. Please contact publiceducation@nybg.org with any accessibility questions or accommodation requests by Thursday\, July 17. \n\nAbout the Workshop Leaders \nSisters Annie Nishwani Lachhman (she/her) and Lakshmee Lachhman-Persad (she/her) are award-winning changemakers using art\, storytelling\, and education to reframe how society sees disability. Annie is a celebrated Disabled Artist whose work has been showcased by institutions like The Met Museum and ADAPT\, and her Disability Pride creations are sold at the New York Botanical Garden\, Whitney Museum\, and online. Lakshmee is the founder of Accessible Travel NYC\, a leading resource in inclusive tourism\, with 25 years in the industry championing disability representation and education. Together\, they bring lived experience\, cultural pride\, and deep joy to every program they lead—empowering communities to embrace disability as identity\, creativity\, resiliency\, and collective strength.

SUMMARY:Virtual Verbal Description Tour: J😊Y TECH and Makibaka with Umber Majeed and Abang-guard
DESCRIPTION:Visitors who are blind or have low vision are invited to join Umber Majeed and Abang-guard in a virtual verbal description tour of their respective exhibitions\, J😊Y TECH and Makibaka. Using various media and approaches across video\, painting\, drawing\, sculpture\, performance\, and AR\, both artists engage with archives\, community history\, and migration to reconsider the 1964–1965 New York World’s Fair. \nJoin these artists on Zoom as they each verbally describe an artwork from their solo exhibitions and discuss their practice with participants. \nThis two-hour program will be facilitated on Zoom by Sarah Cho\, Assistant Curator and Lindsey Berfond\, Assistant Curator and Studio Programs Manager.
