DESCRIPTION:In 2001\, Lincoln Center set the scene for the first La Casita\, a citywide\, intentionally-inclusive festival celebrating poetry and music\, grounded in the principle that New York City is best represented by presenting the artistic traditions of its most underserved communities. This year\, La Casita’s curators have assembled a stellar cast of poets and musicians around the themes of lineage and heritage\, mining tradition and bloodline through the lens of provenance. This year’s line up\, hosted by 2012 Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion Eboni Hogan\, includes reading from Bronx-born “lingualisualist” Edwin Torres\, Latinx educator and “artivist” Jessica Diaz\, poet and playwright Nancy Mercado\, and cultural organizer and author Sonia Guiñansaca. To learn more about relaxed performances\, visit this page. \nJonathon Heyward\, conductor \nLudwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 6 (“Pastoral”) \nAs part of Summer for the City\, we are delighted to invite you to a free Open Rehearsal with the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center on July 23\, 2024 from 10:30–11:45 am at David Geffen Hall. This Relaxed Rehearsal will provide a peek behind the scenes as the Festival Orchestra prepares a piece for performance. Bask in Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony\, inspired by his love of nature and walks in the country. \nWhat to expect at a Relaxed Open Rehearsal:–Guests are able to enter and leave the audience space throughout the event\, as needed.–Guests can vocalize or move throughout audience space.–Fellow audience members are asked to create a no “shushing” zone.–House lights are adjusted so that venue is never fully dark.–Attention to bright lights\, loud noises\, and surprise sensory elements are described in advance.–Chill Out Space is available for guests to take a break and rejoin the rehearsal when ready.–A visual guide\, with clear instructions\, will be shared before event.–Noise-reducing headphones and fidgets are available to borrow.–Staff members and artists are trained in access and inclusion best practices. \nPlease note: This is a working rehearsal\, open to an audience to observe. SUMMARY:Free Friday Astronomy Night ASL Interpretation
DESCRIPTION:Free Fridays are back! The Intrepid Museum is once again extending its hours free of charge on Friday\, July 26 from 5:00pm – 9:00pm. Don’t miss special programming during Free Fridays\, including the Museum’s popular Summer Movie Series and Astronomy Night\, part of the Astro Live Series. \nIn connection with the Museum’s newest exhibition: Apollo: When We Went to the Moon\, all of the movies this summer will feature stories about humankind’s exploration and fascination with the Moon. During this movie night\, enjoy views of the Hudson River and city skyline while screening the film First Man on the flight deck. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs\, picnic baskets and blankets to view the film outdoors\, free of charge\, on a huge inflatable screen on the flight deck. Movie will begin at sunset. \nAstronomy Nights are FREE and feature fun-filled and educational experiences for the whole family\, including talks from astronauts\, engineers\, and scientists and activities & demos led by Museum educators. \nFamilies and individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing can pre-register to receive priority entry to the Museum and a visual schedule of the night’s events.
