DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free virtual exploration of the “Safe Space” by Miles Regis augmented reality experience that features embedded audio description. \nThis event will take place on zoom from 5:00pm – 6:00pm on Friday\, August 15th. \nDesigned for guests who are blind or have low vision but open to all\, this Zoom event will be led by describer Madison Zalopany and will feature Miles Regis discussing his work. With a goal of increasing accessibility in modern technologies\, this discussion will center on the process of collaborating to create an equitable augmented reality experience. \n“Safe Space” is an in-person\, site-specific augmented reality experience accessible through an app. This event will explore the digital artwork\, and the recorded audio description that will be available until October. \nThis event will include verbal description\, closed captioning\, and ASL interpretation. If you require any additional accommodations feel free to let us know in the program registration form. \nTo sign up for this virtual program\, submit our registration form. SUMMARY:Reading with New York Therapy Animals
DESCRIPTION:While the museum’s galleries are closed for installation\, join free drop-in design activities in the Garden.   \nReading with New York Therapy Animals \nJoin Cooper Hewitt for a sensory-friendly reading hour with New York Therapy Animals. Gain confidence in reading out loud and asking questions about new concepts. Books for a wide range of reading levels will be available. \nThis activity is recommended for those ages 5–12 and their adult guardian/care partners. \nRegistration is required. Email us at CHaccess@si.edu to get more information about signing up for a time slot to read with a certified therapy dog.  \n* During inclement weather activities will move indoors.  \nACCESSIBILITY AND WHAT TO EXPECT  \n\nFormat: From 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. participants will take turns reading to a New York Therapy Animal dog for a 7-10 minutes. You are welcome to enjoy our other activities and wheelchair-accessible garden while you wait and after your slot reading with the therapy dog.\n\n\nAbout this space: This program will take place in person in the Arthur Ross Terrace and Garden at Cooper Hewitt (Entry through garden gates on 90th Street\, between Fifth and Madison Avenues). The garden is fully wheelchair accessible. A water fountain will be available. Read more about accessibility at Cooper Hewitt. The SHOP\, Cafe\, and indoor seating area will be open if you need a break from the heat. \n\n\nAccommodations:  For general questions\, or if we can provide additional accessibility services or accommodations to support your participation in this program\, please email us at CHEducation@si.edu.
