Participants will be guided through the exhibition with spoken descriptions and will have opportunities to touch objects from the artist’s studio. \nThis tour is accessible for blind and low vision visitors and open to all interested visitors. \n“I always feel like the margins tell you more than the center of the page ever could.” —Marcia Tucker\, Museum Founder \nOut of Bounds is a series of talks\, readings\, performances\, and more that seeks to expand how we think about what’s on display in the New Museum. Bringing together artists\, specialists\, and workers from fields beyond the art world\, these engagements expand on themes found in the artworks and exhibitions on view. \nTICKETS\nCheck-in for this program will be in the Lobby at 10:45 a.m.\, before the Museum opens. DESCRIPTION:Formerly known as Mindful Connections\, Memory Connections is the Rubin Museum’s long-running\, free access program that connects art and adults living with dementia. Join us online for an hour of close-looking and discussion led by Museum teachers and staff. \nOn September 14\, the program will explore the theme of Enlightened Teachers. Selections of Himalayan art from the Rubin’s collection will include Arhat Rahula (pictured above)\, the Buddha’s son and one of his 16 original disciples (called arhats)\, and Arhat Abheda\, the noble elder. Participants will also engage in a mindful movement workshop in partnership with GROOVE NYC\, exploring a variety of styles and genres that encourage you to feel good in your body while nurturing mind\, heart\, and soul. This workshop is accessible for all levels of mobility\, as participants will have the option to remain seated during the activity. \nPlease note: The new start time for this program is 11:00 AM. DESCRIPTION:The Center for Disability Studies and Grey Art Gallery at NYU invite you to join Emilie L. Gossiaux for a virtual artist talk in advance of her debut museum solo exhibition\, “Other-Worlding”\, at the Queens Museum in New York City. Gossiaux will be in conversation with Georgina Kleege\, author of “More than Meets the Eye: What Blindness Brings to Art”. Gossiaux and Kleege will preview Gossiaux’s exhibit\, discuss her artistic practice\, and consider the ways a disabled artist’s experience can inform how museums provide access. \nEmilie L. Gossiaux is a multidisciplinary artist whose works center disability pride through her investigations of the complex relationships between humans and animals in the Anthropocene\, or the human-impacted world. Gossiaux’s work fosters imagination\, liberation\, and pleasure in opposition to the Anthropocene’s exploitative systems of capitalism and ableism. For her first museum solo exhibition\, Gossiaux will create a large-scale sculptural installation that both expands upon her deep and sincere relationship with her guide dog\, London\, and celebrates the white cane as a symbol of freedom. \nGeorgina Kleege is Professor Emeritus of English at UC Berkeley. She now lives in New York City.
