DESCRIPTION:Join Morley as she weaves the threads of jazz\, soul\, and folk traditions into a singular tapestry of vocal and acoustic splendor — the sound wave of a life lived with uncommon devotion to human rights and environmental justice. \nThis event is part of Lincoln Center Moments\, a free performance-based program specially designed for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. \nPerformances at 11:00 am are Relaxed Performances\, designed for a neurodiverse audience. In addition to audiences impacted by dementia\, these performances are also open to adults with developmental disabilities. \nPerformances at 1:00 pm are followed by an hour-long workshop specially designed for audiences impacted by dementia—facilitated by educators and music therapists that explore the work through discussion\, movement\, music\, and art-making. \nThis event is part of Lincoln Center Moments. DESCRIPTION:Please note that masking is mandatory for this performance. \nVisual Description: Alice Sheppard and Laurel Lawson curl into themselves on the floor of a black studio. Alice Sheppard and Laurel Lawson from Kinetic Light will be presenting a work-in-progress excerpt from their newest dance work\, The Next T.i.M.es\, and additional Kinetic Light works. \nWorking in the disciplines of art\, technology\, design\, and dance\, Kinetic Light creates\, performs\, and teaches at the nexus of access\, queerness\, disability\, dance\, and race. The company is led by disabled artists; disabled artists create\, design\, and perform the work. A Bessie award-winning choreographer\, Sheppard creates movement that challenges conventional understandings of disabled and dancing bodies. \nLaurel Lawson (flexible pronouns) is a choreographic collaborator\, dancer\, designer\, and engineer with Kinetic Light. She is the primary costume and makeup designer and designs the wheelchairs that she and Alice use in performance. Laurel is also the product designer and lead for access\, software\, and access curriculum initiatives\, including Kinetic Light’s signature program Access ALLways.

The company’s unique form of elevated performance is performed in\, between\, and above the public. Close-Act’s creations have been performed around the globe. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the culmination of a months-long collaborative effort with Brooklyn Public Library to create a contemporary anthem echoing our collective hopes\, struggles\, and histories. Paying homage to the anthem genre\, Anthem to US has invited applicants to take part in an immersive three-part writing workshop series guided by notable instructors. Three participants have advanced to collaborate with expert composers Jaime Lozano\, Damien L. Sneed\, Martha Redbone & Aaron Whitby to craft a finished piece. At the July 6 concert at Damrosch Park\, you can experience the final three world premiere anthems live; and out of those three\, a slate of luminaries including Laurie Anderson and Sandra Cisneros will review and select one winning anthem. \nThis concert also features beloved songs that have served as anthems of hope\, peace\, protest\, and resilience in many moments of history\, including “Lift Every Voice and Sing”\, also known as “the Black National Anthem”\, Sam Cooke’s civil-rights era classic “A Change Is Gonna Come”\, and “We Shall Overcome”\, a song that has united generations in the struggle for equality and justice.
