DESCRIPTION:It was on a tour of the British Museum years ago that Mohegan theater artist Madeline Sayet (Where We Belong) discovered a collection of Native American skulls—objects the museum classified as artifacts\, but which she understood as ancestors\, alive with the yearning to return home. In Gabriela Wiener’s irreverently witty novel\, Undiscovered (tr. Julia Sanches)\, the Peruvian writer is confronted by her complicated family colonial heritage in a museum in Paris when she discovers the man responsible for pillaging these pre-Columbian artifacts was her own great-great-grandfather. In Who Owns Beauty? (tr. Andrew Brown)\, French art historian Bénédicte Savoy\, whose work has fundamentally reshaped debates on provenance\, museums\, and cultural restitution\, asks us to examine how great works of art collected in Western museums came to be there. \nIn a conversation moderated by PEN America’s Executive Director of Artists at Risk Connection\, Julie Trébault\, these writers ask: what do the journeys of human remains\, cultural artifacts\, and iconic artworks reveal about our history? What makes the violence and asymmetries that have shaped their extraction\, preservation\, and return both collective and deeply personal experiences?

Dudamel received classical training within his hometown’s highly regarded El Sistema Music Education program and went on to play in classical orchestras\, but his fascination with the Caribbean rhythms of salsa never left him. His Caracas-based salsa orchestra has shared the stage with Rubén Blades\, Hector Lavoe\, Gilberto Santa Rosa\, Luis Enrique\, and many others. Dudamel’s headlining\, full-band Lincoln Center premiere celebrates the release of the artist’s new album Sueño Alcanzado.

Bulbul is obsessed with the mystery of sand: how it flows like a liquid\, but then jams into a solid. Misha is obsessed with his mother. But they’re running out of time. Since 2009\, Lincoln Center has found a meaningful partner in Voices of a People’s History\, a non-profit organization of artists and educators who seek to keep Zinn’s message of grassroots egalitarianism alive. This night of readings and performances features students from The Judith S. Kaye School\, Urban Academy\, N.Y.C Lab School\, and Spruce Street School.

DESCRIPTION:Participants in the ASL community are invited to explore the exhibition Paul Klee: Other Possible Worlds through a tour led by a Deaf educator. Please join us from 3:30 – 4 pm for light refreshments. \nPaul Klee: Other Possible Worlds marks the first American museum exhibition to focus on the artist’s late work. In 1933\, Klee was forced to flee Germany in the face of Nazi persecution. His work was denounced as ‘degenerate\,’ a term used by Hitler to stigmatize artists and their art. In this period of exile Klee developed a new style\, one that was poetic\, exploratory\, and an artistic rebellion against authoritarianism. \nDue to limited capacity\, ASL students will not be admitted to the program and no voice interpretation will be provided.  \nAll Access Programs are free of charge and require advance reservation.
