DESCRIPTION:Art inSight at Home is an online program for individuals who are blind or have low vision. In each session\, staff educators highlight specific themes\, artists\, or exhibitions through verbal description and discussion using the Zoom platform. \nIn this interactive session\, we will have a conversation about the current exhibition ED RUSCHA / NOW THEN with the curatorial team. Artist Ed Ruscha has recorded and transformed familiar subjects—whether roadside gasoline stations or the 20th Century Fox logo—often revisiting motifs\, sites\, or words years later. Together we will trace shifts in the artist’s means and methods over time in works that make use of everything from gunpowder to chocolate. \nArt inSight at Home is free of charge. Participants may join with the Zoom app or website\, or toll free via phone. \nSpace is limited\, and preregistration is required. SUMMARY:Memory Connections
DESCRIPTION:Memory Connections is a free program for people living with dementia and their caregivers. On the second Thursday of every month\, trained teaching artists and special performers facilitate an online experience designed to promote engagement between participants and the art and cultures of the Himalayan region. \nIn addition to an in-depth look at two artworks from the Museum’s collection\, the December program will be the second and final session of a mini series in partnership with Stories in the Moment\, an evidence-informed program for people living with dementia\, as well as their care partners and friends. The program uses dance and movement as a form of storytelling and is built on the principle that all of us\, regardless of our modes of cognition\, have stories to tell and the means to tell them. Together\, we bring our minds and bodies together to build stories in the moment. All activities can be done seated or standing.

DESCRIPTION:Visitors who are blind or have low vision are invited to join Emilie L. Gossiaux and sonia louise davis in a virtual verbal description tour of their respective exhibitions\, Other-Worlding and to reverberate tenderly. Using various media and approaches across sculpture\, drawing\, painting\, figuration\, abstraction\, and improvisation\, Gossiaux and davis find common ground in their pursuit of softness and joy as a mode of resistance. Join these two artists as they each verbally describe three works from their solo exhibitions and discuss their work with participants. \nEmilie L. Gossiaux: Other-Worlding celebrates the autonomy that guide dogs and the white cane provide the blind and low-vision community in navigating a world predominantly designed for sighted people. Central to this exhibition is the question: can we imagine another world where unity is co-built across species and disability status? Through large-scale sculptural installation and drawings\, Gossiaux creates a world beyond the hierarchical structures of capitalism and ableism. \nsonia louise davis: to reverberate tenderly focuses on improvisation as a crucial practice of care\, resilience\, and self-determination in the face of systemic injustices. Situated within a lineage of Black feminist abstraction and avant-garde music\, davis’ invented graphic notation system invites new ways of resonating\, vibrating\, gesturing\, listening\, and responding. Throughout the exhibition\, davis presents this visual vocabulary in tufted soft paintings\, a site-specific mural with neons\, sculptural instruments\, and performances that engage with the process of improvisation as a generative and emancipatory form of research. \nThis two-hour program will be facilitated by Sarah Cho\, Assistant Curator. Her latest solo exhibition\, resonant frequencies\, blossoming tones\, at Hesse Flatow (NY) was listed a “must see” by Artforum in 2022. She has presented her work at the Whitney Museum (NY)\, ACRE (Chicago)\, Sadie Halie Projects (Minneapolis)\, Ortega y Gasset (Brooklyn)\,  and Artists Space (NY)\, among other venues. Residencies and fellowships include the Laundromat Project’s Create Change Fellowship\, Civitella Ranieri\, New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowship at the International Studio & Curatorial Program\, Culture Push Fellowship for Utopian Practice\, and Stoneleaf Retreat. Her newest book\, slow and soft and righteous\, improvising at the end of the world (and how we make a new one) was published in 2021 by Co—Conspirator Press\, which operates out of the Feminist Center for Creative Work in Los Angeles. Sonia lives and works in Harlem. \nEmilie L. Gossiaux (b. 1989 New Orleans\, LA) lives and works in New York City. Gossiaux earned a BFA from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 2014\, and an MFA from Yale School of Art in 2019. Her solo shows include Memory of a Body (2020) and Significant Otherness (2022) at Mother Gallery\, among others. Select group exhibitions include Crip Time\, Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt (2021); Greater New York\, MoMA PS1 (2021); and 52 Artists\, A Feminist Milestone\, The Aldrich Contemporary (2022); among others. Gossiaux was awarded a John F. Kennedy Center’s VSA Prize (2013)\, the Wynn Newhouse Award (2019)\, a NYFA Barbara and Carl Zydney Grant (2021)\, the Colene Brown Art Prize (2022)\, and The Pébéo Production Prize (2023). Her work has been featured in publications such as The Brooklyn Rail\, The New Yorker\, Art in America\, and Topical Cream Magazine.

In the great tradition of slapstick comedians like The Three Stooges\, La Compagnie Zolobe’s clown trio uses physical comedy and body language to tell their story while remaining completely silent. They are accompanied by a musician who plays traditional instruments: kabosy (a rectangular guitar) and djembe (drum). The word sakasaka means “thirsty” in Malagasy and\, using just a mop\, bucket and a few bottles of water\, the clowns take audiences on hilarious adventures that gently and sincerely explore the preciousness of water. We’ll reflect on the past year of programs and turn toward what’s to come in 2024. For this program\, participants will receive a special holiday package to ring in the new year!  \nThese virtual programs will be accessible by web link and by dial-in phone number\, depending on your preference.  Please only RSVP to one of the following dates: \nMonday\, December 18\, 6:30-8:30pm ET\nWednesday\, December 20\, 2:00-4:00pm ET \nThe program is free\, with RSVP required by December 4 to receive the holiday package; please include a mailing address with your RSVP. If you prefer not to receive the package\, RSVP is required by three days before the program. In addition to audiences impacted by dementia\, these performances are also open to adults with developmental disabilities. \nPerformances at 1:00 pm are followed by an hour-long workshop specially designed for audiences impacted by dementia—facilitated by educators and music therapists that explore the work through discussion\, movement\, music\, and art-making. \nThis event is part of Lincoln Center Moments.
