DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour of Cooper Hewitt’s current exhibition\, Give Me A Sign: The Language of Symbols\, co-led by curator Emily Orr and Accessibility & Inclusion Manager Kirsten Sweeney in collaboration with the NYPL Heiskell Braille & Talking Book Library. Together\, we will examine the fascinating history behind many of the symbols that instruct\, protect\, entertain\, empower\, and connect people\, and discuss the ways visual and non-visual symbols show up in our daily lives. Rich verbal descriptions and tactile recreations of symbols will accompany the tour.  \nAfter the tour\, join us for an interactive drawing workshop. Using Sensational Blackboards for tactile drawing\, we will take what we’ve learned about the building blocks of symbols to design our own. DESCRIPTION:This Disability Pride Month\, join us for a poetry reading facilitated by Joselia Hughes featuring poets Kay Ulanday Barrett\, Dan Schapiro\, and Jackie Torres\, and in conjunction with the thirty-third anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Hughes framed this poetry reading with this invitation:  \n  \nLet’s be potent and clear: it is summer 2023\, the covid-19 pandemic rages\, neglect from the status quo proliferates\, many of our comrades have died\, many more of our communities are dying and becoming increasingly debilitated. It is July which means it is Disability Pride Month. In the face of unwavering violence\, Pride is a complicating energy to hold. It is neither just the appreciation of progress nor an acknowledgement of one’s efforts. Pride is a collective rally into the necessity of and our presence to dignity—in living\, in death\, in sorrow\, in celebration. The dignity of ourselves as individuals within a network of many. The dignity of our breathing. The dignity of our struggle. The dignity of our being here now\, our being there then\, our will to be again. In a small chorus\, Dan Schapiro\, Jackie Torres\, and Kay Ulanday Barrett will offer  up songs\, chants\, memories\, directives\, considerations\, dreams\, and much more on how we can continue our mission of dignified life for all of us.  \n  \nThis event will take place on Zoom and will be accompanied by an cozy in-person viewing in the Susan and John Hess Family Theater for folks who wish to convene in person. DESCRIPTION:The Guggenheim is continuing to celebrate the ideas\, people\, and art at the core of its mission by offering virtual and in-person Mind’s Eye programming for participants who are blind or have low vision. Join us in July to explore the current exhibition Sarah Sze: Timelapse. \nIn this solo exhibition\, artist Sarah Sze reimagines the Guggenheim’s iconic Frank Lloyd Wright–designed building as a public timekeeper\, creating immersive environments and a series of site-specific multisensory installations to activate our collective experience and memory. Visitors encounter a variety of mediums in the show including painting\, sculpture\, sound\, video\, and architecture. \nJoin us in exploring and challenging concepts of time and memory. As a group\, we’ll engage with\, in the artist’s own words\, “a contemplation on how we mark time and how time marks us.” In both in-person and virtual sessions\, we’ll have a chance to reflect on and respond to the passage of time. \nJuly’s Mind’s Eye programming will be led by artist and educator Rukhshan Haque through verbal description and conversation. DESCRIPTION:The Guggenheim is continuing to celebrate the ideas\, people\, and art at the core of its mission by offering virtual and in-person Mind’s Eye programming for participants who are blind or have low vision. Join us in July to explore the current exhibition Sarah Sze: Timelapse. \nIn this solo exhibition\, artist Sarah Sze reimagines the Guggenheim’s iconic Frank Lloyd Wright–designed building as a public timekeeper\, creating immersive environments and a series of site-specific multisensory installations to activate our collective experience and memory. Visitors encounter a variety of mediums in the show including painting\, sculpture\, sound\, video\, and architecture. \nJoin us in exploring and challenging concepts of time and memory. As a group\, we’ll engage with\, in the artist’s own words\, “a contemplation on how we mark time and how time marks us.” In both in-person and virtual sessions\, we’ll have a chance to reflect on and respond to the passage of time. \nJuly’s Mind’s Eye programming will be led by artist and educator Rukhshan Haque through verbal description and conversation. Salinas \nWHEN:  Sunday  July 23\, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time. \nWHERE:  Teatro Paraguas\, 3205 Calle Marie\, Santa Fe. New Mexico. 87507 \nTeatro Paraguas is pleased to present La Tierra y las palabras: Three Poets Approach the American West\, a poetry reading with Aaron Rudolph\, Ken Hada\, and Alex Z. Salinas.  The reading takes place on Sunday\, July 23 at 5:00 p.m.\, and is part of the ongoing Poetry at Paraguas series \nAlex Z. Salinas is the author of full-length poetry collections WARBLES and DREAMT\, or The Lingering Phantoms of Equinox\, which received a starred review in Kirkus Reviews. His debut book of stories\, City Lights From the Upside Down\, was featured in the National Book Critics Circle’s Critical Notes. Salinas’ poetry collections Hispanic Sonnets and Trash Poems are forthcoming in 2023. He received his M.A. in English Literature and Language as a Distinguished Graduate from St. Mary’s University. He was born in Corpus Christi\, Texas\, but has long called San Antonio home. \nKen Hada’s latest book\, Come Before Winter\, has just been released by Turning Plow Press. His previous book\, Contour Feathers (Turning Plow Press\, 2021)\, received the Oklahoma Book Award for poetry. Additionally\, Ken’s poetic works have been awarded by South Central Modern Language Association\, The Western Writers of America\, and the National Western Heritage Museum. Four of his poems have been featured on The Writer’s Almanac. Ken lives and writes in the Cross Timbers section of rural Oklahoma. He has taught at East Central University since 2000\, where he has directed the Scissortail Creative Writing Festival for 18 years. More information at kenhada.org. \nAaron Rudolph\, a northern New Mexico native\, has authored two poetry collections\, Sacred Things (Bridge Burner’s\, 2002) and The Sombrero Galaxy (Strawberry Hedgehog\, 2017). He runs Cuento Magazine\, a micro writing journal that has published on Twitter since 2010. Rudolph recently won first place for poetry in the 2022 Pasatiempo Annual Writing Contest. He teaches literature and writing at the Early College of Arvada in Colorado.

Heidi Latsky Dance is an NYC-based\, physically integrated company\, creating daring work with people with disabilities since 2006. \n\n12–3 p.m.\, Multi-Sensory Table\, Join us to explore plants and their products from the Garden’s collections through this tabletop multi-sensory experience.  \n\n2:30 p.m.\, ASL Magnificent Tree Tour\, What makes a tree notable? DESCRIPTION:The Guggenheim is continuing to celebrate the ideas\, people\, and art at the core of its mission by offering virtual and in-person Mind’s Eye programming for participants who are blind or have low vision. Join us in July to explore the current exhibition Sarah Sze: Timelapse. \nIn this solo exhibition\, artist Sarah Sze reimagines the Guggenheim’s iconic Frank Lloyd Wright–designed building as a public timekeeper\, creating immersive environments and a series of site-specific multisensory installations to activate our collective experience and memory. Visitors encounter a variety of mediums in the show including painting\, sculpture\, sound\, video\, and architecture. \nJoin us in exploring and challenging concepts of time and memory. As a group\, we’ll engage with\, in the artist’s own words\, “a contemplation on how we mark time and how time marks us.” In both in-person and virtual sessions\, we’ll have a chance to reflect on and respond to the passage of time. \nJuly’s Mind’s Eye programming will be led by artist and educator Rukhshan Haque through verbal description and conversation.
