Operating multiple cameras and live looping systems\, Jen Tullock (Severance) expertly plays a full cast of characters in a tour-de-force performance that blurs the line between reality and the lies we tell ourselves in order to survive. \nAudio Description: This performance will feature live audio description by Andrea Miskow\, designed for blind and low-vision audience members. Audio description is delivered via a personal listening device and provides vivid\, objective narration of visual elements during the performance. A pre-show Touch Tour will also be offered\, allowing patrons to explore elements of the set\, costumes\, and props through touch. DESCRIPTION:Participants in the ASL community are invited to explore the exhibition Identity\, Culture\, and Community: Stories from the Collections of the Jewish Museum through a tour led by a Deaf educator. \nThe Jewish Museum’s collection galleries trace the rich history of Jewish culture across the global diaspora. It will explore topics such as Jewish ritual\, migration\, memory\, identity\, feminist art\, and how Jewish identity and experience are being interpreted in contemporary works. The two floor installation will be joined visually by a monumentally scaled installation of more than 120 Hanukkah lamps\, underscoring the central meaning of light as a symbol of enlightenment and hope across cultures. \nDue to limited capacity\, ASL students will not be admitted to the program and no voice interpretation will be provided.  \nAll Access Programs are free of charge and require advance reservation. DESCRIPTION:Participants in the ASL community are invited to explore the exhibition Ben Shahn: On Nonconformity through a virtual tour led by Alexandria Wailes. \nBen Shahn\, On Nonconformity examines the prolific and progressive artist’s commitment to chronicling and confronting crucial issues of his era. Featuring artworks and objects from the 1930s to the 1960s\, the show includes paintings\, mural studies\, prints\, photographs\, commercial designs\, and ephemera. \nThe exhibition draws its title from Ben Shahn’s credo of “nonconformity\,” which the artist asserted as an indispensable precondition for both significant artistic production and all great societal change. His work investigates issues such as unemployment\, discrimination\, authoritarianism\, and threats to freedom of expression\, while championing labor\, civil\, and human rights. Shahn’s later spiritual work\, which embraces the Hebrew language and biblical stories\, also reflects his exploration of a tradition of social justice activism within Jewish culture. \nDue to limited capacity\, ASL students will not be admitted to the program and no voice interpretation will be provided.  \nAll Access Programs are free of charge and require advance reservation. The 2025 film follows Jennifer\, Gabriel\, and José — three Deaf musicians who are members of Venezuela’s Coro de Manos Blancas — as they bring Beethoven’s opera Fidelio to the stage in sign language for the first time\, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel\, a Rolex Testimonee and now the NY Phil’s Tang Music & Artistic Director Designate. \n“Music is not only the inspiration and driving force in the lives of these brilliant Deaf artists\, but also their refuge and salvation\,” says Valverde. “This is a story of justice — of how art transcends the visible and transforms its protagonists into guides who illuminate a new way of experiencing music\, one that comes from a deeper level of awareness; a declaration of freedom and dignity.” \nThe evening begins with a live performance of music from Fidelio\, with Dudamel conducting the Juilliard Orchestra\, Juilliard vocal students\, and Deaf actors engaged through Deaf West Theatre. DESCRIPTION:Samantha Coleman was a remarkable force in both theatre and disability advocacy. As an adult\, an autoimmune condition led to her becoming increasingly deaf and blind. She remained an active part of the Broadway community\, turning her passion into fierce advocacy work for theatre accessibility. \nThis special evening of performances will benefit The Sami Coleman ’17 Theatre Accessibility Endowed Fund\, at her alma mater Adelphi University. The fund will provide ongoing support for their Theatre Department and Performing Arts Center in expanding access\, cultivating diverse communities\, and ensuring that everyone\, regardless of ability\, can participate fully in the arts. \n\nThe performance will be ASL-interpreted in person and captioned for the livestream audience\, ensuring an inclusive experience for all.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Canal Street Research Association (market)
DESCRIPTION:Cuchifritos Gallery is pleased to present a new project by AAI’s LES Studio Program residency alum Shanzhai Lyric. Designed in collaboration with architectural collective common room\, Canal Street Research Association (market) will be on view at Cuchifritos Gallery + Project Space from November 15\, 2025 through February 7\, 2026. \nLocated inside Essex Market on Manhattan’s Lower East Side\, the installation transforms the gallery into a hybrid research site and storefront\, examining how the politics of visibility\, commerce\, and belonging have shaped the city’s marketplaces for nearly a century. By situating the project within Cuchifritos Gallery\, Shanzhai Lyric links historical inquiry to the living economies that sustain the neighborhood. Visitors are invited to step into the installation\, browse its offerings\, and produce their own bootleg holiday cards\, joining an ongoing dialogue about creativity\, labor\, and survival in the city.
