SUMMARY:DEGENERATES – Audio Described Performance & Touch Tour
DESCRIPTION:DEGENERATES\, written by Else Went and directed by Emma Rosa Went\, takes us into an obscure corner of the internet where a group of young men have built a community around a shared conviction: the game is rigged against them\, they will never be loved\, and there is little point in trying. When an unexpected relationship begins to form\, the consequences of that fatalism become painfully clear. Darkly funny and unsettling\, DEGENERATES examines an insular online community formed around shared and seemingly infinite miseries. \nThis performance will feature live Audio Description for blind and low-vision audience members. Audio Description provides live verbal descriptions of the visual elements of the production\, including action\, settings\, costumes\, and other visual details\, delivered through a headset during the performance. \nA pre-show Touch Tour will also be offered\, providing an opportunity to experience selected elements of the production through touch and description before the performance.

SUMMARY:Urban Love Suite
DESCRIPTION:Urban Love Suite is a joy-filled\, rhythmically infectious love letter celebrating the cultural connections between Black and Brown communities worldwide\, from Dakar to Havana\, from New Orleans to Chicago\, to New York City’s Harlem\, South Bronx\, and San Juan Hill. This vibrant evening-length work\, created in collaboration with the artists of Sekou McMiller & Friends\, draws on African diasporic traditions from salsa and mambo\, jazz\, house\, stepping\, and Black social and street dance forms. Propelled by the pulse of live music\, the work traces the rhythms and human experiences that transcend barriers\, exploring the connections\, divergences\, and shared histories among Afro-Latin\, Afro-Caribbean\, and African-American experiences. Urban Love Suite dances from the past into the future\, celebrating a reunion of cultures with a renewed sense of oneness.

SUMMARY:Relaxed Virtual Screening of San Juan Hill: Manhattan’s Lost Neighborhood
DESCRIPTION:Join us for San Juan Hill: Manhattan’s Lost Neighborhood\, an hour-long documentary directed by Emmy Award winner Stanley Nelson. Through never-before-accessed historical footage\, expert commentary\, first-person storytelling with former residents\, and narration by Academy Award-winning actress Ariana DeBose (West Side Story)\, San Juan Hill: Manhattan’s Lost Neighborhood traces the San Juan Hill neighborhood’s rise and fall—and celebrates the people\, arts\, and culture whose enduring legacy still resonates today. \nThis is a relaxed virtual screening\, open to all and especially welcoming for people with autism\, sensory or communication disorders\, or learning disabilities. This program is recommended for ages 12 and up. To learn more about relaxed performances at Lincoln Center\, visit our Relaxed Performances webpage. \nAbout the Documentary:\nIn the first half of the twentieth century\, the area where Lincoln Center now stands was known by another name: San Juan Hill. Predating the golden age of the Harlem Renaissance\, musical phenomena like Bebop and the Charleston bloomed in this cultural center; San Juan Hill’s clubs and theaters nurtured creative geniuses like James P. Johnson\, Josephine Baker\, Rogelio “Ram” Ramirez\, and Thelonious Monk; and businesses and community centers bustled throughout the neighborhood. Home to a largely working-class community\, San Juan Hill was redlined in the 1930s and targeted by “urban renewal” in the 1940s and 1950s\, displacing thousands of residents. Their stories of home\, belonging\, and resilience have gone untold…until now.
