SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: The Ocean Etched in the Forest
DESCRIPTION:Lincoln Center presents a major work from the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and performer Du Yun. Born in China and currently based in New York City\, Du Yun’s insatiable curiosity finds new voice in The Ocean Etched in the Forest (刻在森林的海). Over the past several years\, Du Yun and her collaborator Julian Crouch have worked closely with Jino artists from Yunnan province\, including He Guiying\, the national inheritor of his people’s unique heritage. Living almost entirely isolated from urban society until 1979\, the Jino people have maintained their distinct culture and ecologically grounded mindset amid rampant modernization. In collaboration with Du Yun and Crouch\, Guiying has been recording Jino children from Bapiao Village as they perform nearly forgotten local folk songs. These recordings\, merged with music from Du Yun’s band OK MISS and live theatrical elements\, form Ocean’s original musical tapestry for a concert that transcends time and geography. Join us for a work that highlights the intersections of ancient tradition and modern methodology\, folk tales and contemporary storytelling\, and generations living and gone. Both showings will feature open captioning. The 2pm showing is a Relaxed Performance. \nThis performance is commissioned by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Beijing Music Festival. The world premiere of Ocean Etched in the Forest took place at the Beijing Music Festival\, followed by the North American Premiere as part of the Lincoln Center Presents Summer for the City 2026. \nTo book your ticket\, visit this website. To make the arts more accessible\, tickets are available on a Choose-What-You-Pay basis. Select the ticket value that’s right for you\, knowing your contribution helps expand access for all.

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: Inside the Orchestra - Intersection and Inspiration
DESCRIPTION:Join Erin Lunsford Norton (Associate Director\, Classical Programming)\, Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center musicians\, and guest artists for an inside look at the lives of orchestral musicians and insights into the evening’s concert program. In this pre-concert talk\, Norton and her guests explore the many ways composers and musicians inspire each other to move orchestral music forward. The three composers on the evening’s program (Debussy\, de Falla\, and Poulenc) intersected with and inspired each others’ music in profound ways. Together we will explore how these kinds of musical intersections and relationships in our modern world continue to fuel the development of orchestral music\, and push it in exciting new directions. Closed captioning available. \nThis event will begin with members of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center playing a selection from Francis Poulenc’s Trio for Oboe\, Bassoon\, and Piano and Lili Boulanger’s Cortège. \n\nThis event is General Admission\, first-come first-served. Just show up!

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center: Raising Our Voices - Collective Singing\, Wellbeing & Global Health
DESCRIPTION:What if singing together were recognized as a shared health practice for individuals and communities? Collective singing is one of the most powerful wellbeing practices humans share. From lullabies and community choirs to spontaneous public song\, singing together is a universal behavior linked to stress reduction\, improved mood\, social bonding\, and physiological regulation. A growing body of research shows that group singing can support mental wellbeing\, reduce loneliness\, and strengthen social connection—protective factors central to World Health Organization (WHO) priorities for population health and noncommunicable disease prevention. Bringing together voices from music\, neuroscience\, public health\, and community practice\, this event explores how collective singing can be understood not only as cultural expression\, but as a scalable public health resource. Audiences are invited to reflect on how raising our voices together can help build healthier bodies\, stronger relationships\, and more connected communities. This panel will feature closed captioning. \nThis event will begin with members of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center playing selections from William Grant Still’s Motherless Child and George Gershwin’s Lullaby. \nThis event is General Admission\, first-come first-served. Just show up!

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center: Sound Mind - Music & Mental Health From Schumann to Today
DESCRIPTION:How has music helped us give voice to emotional complexity and support mental health across time? Robert Schumann’s music gave form to inner conflict\, vulnerability\, and emotional intensity—offering a powerful example of how creative expression can hold psychological intricacy when words fall short. Today\, growing evidence shows that engagement with music and the arts can support emotional regulation\, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression\, and foster connection\, meaning\, and hope amidst adversity. Bringing together artists\, clinicians\, and scholars\, this conversation traces the enduring relationship between music and mental health\, from Schumann’s era to contemporary practice. Together\, speakers invite audiences to consider how music continues to help us listen more closely to the mind\, deepen empathy\, and create spaces for reflection and healing. This panel will feature closed captioning. \nThis event will begin with members of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center playing a selection from Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor. \n\nThis event is General Admission\, first-come first-served. Just show up!
