SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: Yinka Esi Graves - The Disappearing Act
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Pasculano Collaborative for Contemporary Dance \nAs part of the inaugural Lincoln Center Contemporary Dance Festival\, the New York Premiere of The Disappearing Act explores flamenco’s roots\, shining a light on the Afro-descendant populations in southern Spain who shaped the genre. Born in London to a family from Ghana and Jamaica\, British flamenco artist Yinka Esi Graves’ travels to Andalusia to study the art form exposed her to a wide array of cultures\, an experience this performance brings vividly to life. Join us in the Alice Tully Hall Lobby at 2:45pm for a pre-show talk with the curatorial team from the Pasculano Collaborative for Contemporary Dance to hear more about the production. The pre-show talk is open to the public and does not require a performance ticket.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo book tickets\, visit this website. To make the arts more accessible\, tickets are available on a Choose-What-You-Pay basis. SUMMARY:Akram Khan Company - Thikra: Night of Remembering
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Pasculano Collaborative for Contemporary Dance \nIn the Lincoln Center Contemporary Dance Festival’s closing week\, audience favorite Akram Khan returns to campus with the U.S. premiere of Thikra: Night of Remembering in collaboration with Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Thikra\, meaning ‘memory’ or ‘recollection’ in Arabic\, is deeply rooted in the power of rituals. With arresting visual design by Manal AlDowayan and Khan’s signature choreographic style—weaving the Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam with contemporary—past and present converge in a journey to connect with ancestral knowledge. Imagined as an annual gathering\, a tribe of women come together for one night only to awaken the spirits of those who came before them. Through ceremony and shared remembrance\, they transcend time\, uniting past and present in a profound act of renewal. This performance will feature audio description. \nTo book your ticket\, visit this website. For sold-out shows\, a day-of line will form day-of at the box office\, prior to showtime. Tickets may become available to the day-of line on a first-come\, first-served basis. Admission is not guaranteed.
