SUMMARY:Musical Theater Storytime with Mama Foundation for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:Presented in collaboration with The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts \nSince 1983\, Vy Higginsen’s musical\, Mama\, I Want To Sing! has entertained audiences around the world with its joyful celebration of gospel music and the people who make it. The success of the musical led to the creation of Mama Foundation for the Arts\, a Harlem-based non-profit organization with a two-decade history of presenting\, preserving\, and promoting African American arts and inspiring generations of musical leaders. In this storytime aimed at kids 0-6\, Mama Foundation offers a sample of this learning experience. Kids will learn songs and practice singing together and individually. \nLincoln Center celebrates summer in New York City as our free Storytime series returns to The Garden at Damrosch Park—and this year due to popular demand\, we have scheduled a second event every Wednesday! DESCRIPTION:Join Morley as she weaves the threads of jazz\, soul\, and folk traditions into a singular tapestry of vocal and acoustic splendor — the sound wave of a life lived with uncommon devotion to human rights and environmental justice. \nThis event is part of Lincoln Center Moments\, a free performance-based program specially designed for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. \nPerformances at 11:00 am are Relaxed Performances\, designed for a neurodiverse audience. In addition to audiences impacted by dementia\, these performances are also open to adults with developmental disabilities. \nPerformances at 1:00 pm are followed by an hour-long workshop specially designed for audiences impacted by dementia—facilitated by educators and music therapists that explore the work through discussion\, movement\, music\, and art-making. \nThis event is part of Lincoln Center Moments. Following a strong run of singles\, including the hits “Várias Queixas\,” and “Devagarinho”\, the band released their debut album\, Pra Gente Acordar\, which was subsequently nominated for the Latin GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Pop Album in Portuguese.
