SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Moments: A Sonic Journey Through San Juan Hill with Mathis Picard
DESCRIPTION:Pianist and composer Mathis Picard presents a program of music that explores the lasting musical heritage of San Juan Hill and uplifts its diverse cultures. Performing alongside special guests\, he leads the audience on a musical journey through the historic neighborhood\, uncovering the rhythms and sounds of the communities that lived there in the first half of the 20th century. \nThis event is part of Lincoln Center Moments\, a free performance-based program specially designed for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. \nPerformances at 11:00 am are Relaxed Performances\, designed for a neurodiverse audience. In addition to audiences impacted by dementia\, these performances are also open to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. \nPerformances at 1:00 pm are followed by an hour-long workshop specially designed for audiences impacted by dementia—facilitated by educators and music therapists that explore the work through discussion\, movement\, music\, and art-making. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact the Access Team at 212-875-5375 or access@lincolncenter.org. \nExplore other events in the series by visiting LincolnCenter.org/Moments

SUMMARY:Relaxed Virtual Screening of San Juan Hill: Manhattan’s Lost Neighborhood
DESCRIPTION:Join us for San Juan Hill: Manhattan’s Lost Neighborhood\, an hour-long documentary directed by Emmy Award winner Stanley Nelson. Through never-before-accessed historical footage\, expert commentary\, first-person storytelling with former residents\, and narration by Academy Award-winning actress Ariana DeBose (West Side Story)\, San Juan Hill: Manhattan’s Lost Neighborhood traces the San Juan Hill neighborhood’s rise and fall—and celebrates the people\, arts\, and culture whose enduring legacy still resonates today. \nThis is a relaxed virtual screening\, open to all and especially welcoming for people with autism\, sensory or communication disorders\, or learning disabilities. This program is recommended for ages 12 and up. To learn more about relaxed performances at Lincoln Center\, visit our Relaxed Performances webpage. \nAbout the Documentary:\nIn the first half of the twentieth century\, the area where Lincoln Center now stands was known by another name: San Juan Hill. Predating the golden age of the Harlem Renaissance\, musical phenomena like Bebop and the Charleston bloomed in this cultural center; San Juan Hill’s clubs and theaters nurtured creative geniuses like James P. Johnson\, Josephine Baker\, Rogelio “Ram” Ramirez\, and Thelonious Monk; and businesses and community centers bustled throughout the neighborhood. Home to a largely working-class community\, San Juan Hill was redlined in the 1930s and targeted by “urban renewal” in the 1940s and 1950s\, displacing thousands of residents. Their stories of home\, belonging\, and resilience have gone untold…until now.

SUMMARY:The Precipice
DESCRIPTION:With the New York premiere of her bold new musical\, The Precipice\, composer\, lyricist\, and performer Miranda Ferriss Jones returns to Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium. As with her previous show\, Spiral Bound\, Miranda brings together a majority-women collective spanning generations and disciplines\, including Jones herself alongside Tony Award winner Laura Benanti. With The Precipice\, Jones asks the question\, “What will you do when they come for your wild?” This original\, feminist fairytale follows Iris and Polly\, daughters of Lady Midnight\, Goddess of Dreams. Each embodies half of their mother: Polly\, the dark\, and Iris\, the light. Separated on Earth and raised in vastly different worlds\, they reunite as teenagers and must fight to preserve their identities. This mythic coming-of-age tale affirms the greatest threat to an oppressive society is a sisterhood bound together by unbridled freedom and radical love.

SUMMARY:THE JAZMINES: a rage play – and for legal reasons\, a parody
DESCRIPTION:A finalist for the 2025 Eugene O’Neill Playwrights Conference\, THE JAZMINES: a rage play – and for legal reasons\, a parody takes place in a satirical multiverse of choice and cost. In THE JAZMINES\, brown artists compete for space in the American theater canon\, negotiating their professional wins with the loss of their personal relationships. Witness the Lincoln Center debut of this new work by author/star Jasmine Sharma (Twelfth Night) with music by composer Xander Browne and direction by Asmeret Ghebremichael (Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York\, The Notebook).
