DESCRIPTION:The works of Brooklyn-born author and historian Howard Zinn (1922–2010)\, particularly the classic bestsellers A People’s History of the United States and Voices of a People’s History of the United States\, continue to shine a light on the extraordinary history of those engaged in struggles for freedom and justice in America. Since 2014\, Lincoln Center has collaborated with Voices of a People’s History\, a non-profit organization of artists and educators who seek to keep Zinn’s message of grassroots egalitarianism alive. The heroic voices featured in Zinn’s books will be brought to life in performance by a chorus of young student activists who have been mentored by artist-activists to find personal meaning in these timeless texts. Using the words of the rebels\, dissenters\, and visionaries of our past and present as a blueprint\, this evening will inspire us all to take collective action to shape our future

DESCRIPTION:In times of political upheaval\, displacement and erasure\, writing becomes a powerful tool of resistance. Join Uyghur poet and memoirist Tahir Hamut Izgil (Waiting to Be Arrested at Night) and Iraqi American poet Dunya Mikhail (Tablets: Secrets of the Clay) as they discuss how their writing challenges dominant political narratives and preserves stories of displacement\, exile and perseverance. \nIn his memoir Waiting to Be Arrested at Night\, Tahir Hamut Izgil documents the Chinese government’s persecution of the Uyghur people and his time in a labor-camp. In Dunya Mikhail’s poetry collection Tablets: Secrets of Clay\, she explores the memories and legacies of her families’ exile from Iraq while looking back at Iraqi history. Moderated by novelist Mojgan Ghazirad (The House on Sun Street)\, this panel will delve into the urgency of documenting personal and collective experiences and how the act of writing both engenders change and urges us towards a future of complex understanding.

Families take a guided\, interactive tour of the Museum and can participate in activities that everyone can enjoy. \nNavigation: Finding Your Way\nFrom ships to planes\, vessels of all types rely on navigation to find their way. Families will explore historic navigation tools and techniques used at sea and make connections to how we navigate the world today. \nCheck-in begins at 1:30pm. Please arrive before 2:00pm in order to participate in the full program.

DESCRIPTION:In this relaxed and sensory-friendly Astronomy Live\, join Museum educators Kate Schmidt and Devin D’Agostino on a field trip to the Moon and Mars. \nLearn how our nearest neighbors compare to Earth and what it will take to land humans on another world. \nThis program is designed for a neurodiverse youth audience\, including autistic children and children with other intellectual/developmental disabilities. \nThis modified Hayden Planetarium program features: \n\nFloor lighting\nReduced volume\nA break space for participants who need to step out during the program\, and opportunity to exit and re-enter during the program\nSensory tools\, such as headsets and stress balls\, for participants\nA relaxed environment where all forms of curiosity and participation are welcome!\n\nDoors will open at 10 am and the program will begin at 10:30 am. \nThe Museum’s 81st Street entrance at the Rose Center for Earth and Space will be a dedicated entrance for attendees of this event between 10-11 am. \nPlease note that if you arrive after 11 am\, the entrance will be open to the general public for visiting the Museum.
