DESCRIPTION:Every month\, Poster House offers virtual Vibrant Verbal Description Tours specifically for community members who are blind or have low vision. \nIn order to reach a wide\, art-loving audience around the world\, we offer our description tours online through Zoom. These tours are led by our Chief Curator\, allowing you intimate access to the items in our current shows and permanent collection. \nThis month’s tour will focus on Global Art Deco. \nPlease email access@posterhouse.org or call ‪914.295.2387 to sign up for this event. SUMMARY:Out of Bounds—Multisensory Tour of “Mire Lee: Black Sun”
DESCRIPTION:Experience a multisensory tour of Mire Lee’s exhibition “Black Sun” with educator Paula Stuttman. Participants will be guided through the exhibition with spoken descriptions and will have opportunities to touch objects from the artist’s studio. \nThis tour is accessible for blind and low vision visitors and open to all interested visitors. \n“I always feel like the margins tell you more than the center of the page ever could.” —Marcia Tucker\, Museum Founder \nOut of Bounds is a series of talks\, readings\, performances\, and more that seeks to expand how we think about what’s on display in the New Museum. Bringing together artists\, specialists\, and workers from fields beyond the art world\, these engagements expand on themes found in the artworks and exhibitions on view. \nTICKETS\nCheck-in for this program will be in the Lobby at 10:45 a.m.\, before the Museum opens. When everyone has arrived the tour will go up to the Fourth Floor. \nPre-Registration Required. His passion for gardens inspired him to create new works—in gold leaf and stainless steel—for three iconic outdoor spaces.   \n\n Meet the artist\, who will discuss the Gold Rose sculpture\, his background\, and his inspirations. \n\n\nHear from representatives of exhibit sponsor DIOR and learn about their company’s investment in the flower fields of France. Plus\, try DIOR’s new scent diffusers.  \n\n\nTour with our Garden Guides\, who are trained to verbally describe the history\, structure\, and horticultural display of the Fragrance Garden and engage visitors with plant materials to touch and smell. \n\n The tour is free\, but space is limited\, so registration is required. SUMMARY:Verbal Description Tour & Tactile Drawing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour of Cooper Hewitt’s current exhibition\, Give Me A Sign: The Language of Symbols\, co-led by curator Emily Orr and Accessibility & Inclusion Manager Kirsten Sweeney in collaboration with the NYPL Heiskell Braille & Talking Book Library. Together\, we will examine the fascinating history behind many of the symbols that instruct\, protect\, entertain\, empower\, and connect people\, and discuss the ways visual and non-visual symbols show up in our daily lives. Rich verbal descriptions and tactile recreations of symbols will accompany the tour.  \nAfter the tour\, join us for an interactive drawing workshop. Using Sensational Blackboards for tactile drawing\, we will take what we’ve learned about the building blocks of symbols to design our own.
