SUMMARY:Guggenheim Mind's Eye: Going Dark\, Part 3
DESCRIPTION:The Guggenheim is continuing to celebrate the ideas\, people\, and art at the core of its mission by offering virtual and in-person Mind’s Eye programming for participants who are blind or have low vision. Join us in March for a tour of the exhibition Going Dark: The Contemporary Figure at the Edge of Visibility. In the third installment of Mind’s Eye: Going Dark\, we will cover new artworks. Prior attendance at the program is not necessary to enjoy part 3 of our exploration of the exhibition.  \nThis exhibition highlights a multigenerational group of artists who engage the “semi-visible” figure—representations that are partially obscured\, including\, in some cases\, literally darkened. Using the concept of “going dark\,” these artists reflect on enduring and urgent questions surrounding social visibility. Visitors encounter in the show a variety of mediums\, including painting\, sculpture\, photography\, video\, and installation. Join us in exploring and interpreting the semi-visible figure during both in-person and virtual sessions. \nMarch Mind’s Eye programming will be led by artist and educator Maya Jeffereis through verbal description and conversation. The virtual session will be accessible by web link or by dial-in phone number\, depending on your preference. \nVirtual programs: \n\nMonday\, March 4\, 6:30–8:30pm ET\nWednesday\, March 6\, 2–4 pm ET\n\nIn-Person programs: \n\nMonday\, March 11\, 6:30–8:30 pm ET\nWednesday\, March 13\, 2–4 pm ET\n\nFree\, but space is limited. RSVP is required three days before the program. To RSVP\, call 212 360 4355 or email access@guggenheim.org.

SUMMARY:AFTER MIDNIGHT at Paper Mill Playhouse - Audio-Described Performance
DESCRIPTION:JAN 31–FEB 25\, 2024 This electrifying musical revue transports you to the Cotton Club of the Harlem Renaissance\, an unparalleled time in New York City when jazz and swing were king. After Midnight intertwines the poetry of Langston Hughes with songs from big-band legends Duke Ellington\, Jimmy McHugh\, Harold Arlen\, Dorothy Fields\, and more. The exhilarating score features such hits as “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love\,” “Stormy Weather\,” “On the Sunny Side of the Street\,” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing.” \nAudio description allows patrons who are blind or have low vision to hear a live\, objective\, and concise description of the action on stage in between dialogue and/or music using an earpiece attached to a small\, hand-size transistor. “Sensory Seminars” occur prior to each performance where patrons can receive more detailed descriptions of the costumes\, set\, and props\, as well as feel select items to gain a more tactile experience. Audio description devices may be obtained at the access services window of the box office. \nCLICK HERE if you require use of our audio description services.

SUMMARY:Virtual Verbal Description Tour of Shary Boyle: Outside the Palace of Me
DESCRIPTION:People who are blind or have low vision are invited to attend a virtual verbal description tour of Shary Boyle: Outside the Palace of Me. \nAn interactive solo exhibition from the celebrated multidisciplinary artist\, Shary Boyle: Outside the Palace of Me (through February 25) explores the construction of the self through drawings\, ceramics\, larger-than-life automatons\, two-way mirrors\, a coin-operated sculpture\, and a musical score. In this imaginative theatrical space created to foster empathy and collective action\, Boyle’s uncanny\, passionately crafted art asks us to examine the roles we play and are born into\, the way we see one another\, and the performance each of us builds over a lifetime.
