How you interact with them is up to you—from afar or up-close\, it’s your decision. They are playful and eager for attention. \nSince 1991\, Close-Act Theatre from The Netherlands (founded by Hesther Melief and Tonny Aerts)\, has specialized in large-scale\, interactive street theater for everyone. The company’s unique form of elevated performance is performed in\, between\, and above the public. Close-Act’s creations have been performed around the globe. DESCRIPTION:Please note that masking is mandatory for this performance. \nVisual Description: Alice Sheppard and Laurel Lawson curl into themselves on the floor of a black studio. Alice lies back to the floor\, legs and torso cradling Laurel who is lying on Alice’s belly and curling into a tight ball. Their eyes are closed and they are embracing a gentle moment. Alice Sheppard and Laurel Lawson from Kinetic Light will be presenting a work-in-progress excerpt from their newest dance work\, The Next T.i.M.es\, and additional Kinetic Light works. \nWorking in the disciplines of art\, technology\, design\, and dance\, Kinetic Light creates\, performs\, and teaches at the nexus of access\, queerness\, disability\, dance\, and race. The company is led by disabled artists; disabled artists create\, design\, and perform the work. A Bessie award-winning choreographer\, Sheppard creates movement that challenges conventional understandings of disabled and dancing bodies. \nLaurel Lawson (flexible pronouns) is a choreographic collaborator\, dancer\, designer\, and engineer with Kinetic Light. She is the primary costume and makeup designer and designs the wheelchairs that she and Alice use in performance. Laurel is also the product designer and lead for access\, software\, and access curriculum initiatives\, including Kinetic Light’s signature program Access ALLways.

DESCRIPTION:The interactive installation by The Urban Conga invites participants to manipulate the movement and reflection of light\, while each unit becomes a different musical instrument\, thereby encouraging the public to engage with each other and create sparkling interactions.\n\n\nLaunched in 2018\, the Big Umbrella Festival centers our audiences by sharing unique approaches to multi-sensory\, interactive\, and engaging artistic experiences\, designed with and for neurodiverse audiences. This summer\, the celebrated Festival returns as a free 1-day campus takeover full of relaxed spaces with multi-sensory experiences\, performances\, installations\, and workshops specifically welcoming neurodivergent audiences and their families. You and your family will have access to the full roster of programming below\, with the ability to drop-in throughout the day\, experiencing as much or as little as you’d like.

DESCRIPTION:Join us this month for a tour of our newest exhibition Jenny Holzer: Light Line.  \nThis exhibition presents a reimagination of Jenny Holzer’s landmark 1989 installation at the Guggenheim. Climbing all six ramps of the museum\, this LED site-specific installation transforms the building with a display of scrolling texts\, featuring selections from her iconic series\, such as “Truisms” and “Inflammatory Essays”. \nLight Line highlights the incisive use of the written word across time and media in Holzer’s practice. In addition to the LED sign\, the exhibition features a selection of Holzer’s works from the 1970s to the present day\, including paintings\, works on paper\, and stone pieces. \nThis month’s Mind’s Eye programming will be led by artist and educator Maya Jeffereis through verbal description and conversation. The virtual session will be accessible by web link or by dial-in phone number\, depending on your preference. \nThe program is repeated both online and in person. DESCRIPTION:Members of the low-vision and blind community are invited to an in-person Vibrant Verbal Description Tour at Poster House. This after-hours event will provide exclusive access to the museum’s exhibition\, The Anatomy of a Movie Poster: The Work of Dawn Baillie. The tour will be led by Educator\, Gabriella Kula. This intimate experience will allow guests to get up close with the posters described\, as well as provide additional tactile objects to help illuminate the art. \nWhile everyone is welcome\, Poster House offers Vibrant Verbal Description Tours specifically for community members who are blind\, have low vision\, or who benefit from verbal descriptions. \nAccessibility Notes: Our front door is wheelchair accessible. Masks are encouraged during this event and are available free of charge at the museum. Clear masks are also available. Assistive listening devices\, stools\, and some tactile objects will be provided. Navigational guides are available upon request.
