SUMMARY:DEGENERATES – Audio Described Performance & Touch Tour
DESCRIPTION:DEGENERATES\, written by Else Went and directed by Emma Rosa Went\, takes us into an obscure corner of the internet where a group of young men have built a community around a shared conviction: the game is rigged against them\, they will never be loved\, and there is little point in trying. When an unexpected relationship begins to form\, the consequences of that fatalism become painfully clear. Darkly funny and unsettling\, DEGENERATES examines an insular online community formed around shared and seemingly infinite miseries. \nThis performance will feature live Audio Description for blind and low-vision audience members. Audio Description provides live verbal descriptions of the visual elements of the production\, including action\, settings\, costumes\, and other visual details\, delivered through a headset during the performance. \nA pre-show Touch Tour will also be offered\, providing an opportunity to experience selected elements of the production through touch and description before the performance.

SUMMARY:The Past and The Curious Live
DESCRIPTION:Highlighting artists exploring new horizons and celebrating major career milestones\, the Festival of Firsts is proud to welcome the New York debut of Fun Forgotten Firsts from History\, a live performance presented as part of Mick Sullivan’s hit children’s podcast\, The Past and The Curious. Through mixed-media storytelling\, games\, and music\, we’ll explore some of the greatest firsts in history—from the first dog to travel around the world\, to the first woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean. Audiences will even learn a song that the first all-woman string band in American history played for the King of England. This free\, live event will additionally include selections from Sullivan’s upcoming third book\, The Ultimate Guide to Animals Who Made History\, coming this winter.

SUMMARY:Urban Love Suite
DESCRIPTION:Urban Love Suite is a joy-filled\, rhythmically infectious love letter celebrating the cultural connections between Black and Brown communities worldwide\, from Dakar to Havana\, from New Orleans to Chicago\, to New York City’s Harlem\, South Bronx\, and San Juan Hill. This vibrant evening-length work\, created in collaboration with the artists of Sekou McMiller & Friends\, draws on African diasporic traditions from salsa and mambo\, jazz\, house\, stepping\, and Black social and street dance forms. Propelled by the pulse of live music\, the work traces the rhythms and human experiences that transcend barriers\, exploring the connections\, divergences\, and shared histories among Afro-Latin\, Afro-Caribbean\, and African-American experiences. Urban Love Suite dances from the past into the future\, celebrating a reunion of cultures with a renewed sense of oneness.
