Join us for a tour of the exhibitions A Year With Children and Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers. \nWe’ll invite you to consider the artistic connections between select artworks by Rashid Johnson alongside work by student artists participating in Learning Through Art\, the Guggenheim’s artist-in-residence program in New York City public elementary schools. Think deeply with us as we engage in a shared exploration of the themes\, materials\, and mediums found in both exhibitions. \nThis month’s Mind’s Eye programming will be led by Guggenheim educators through verbal description and conversation. Part two of the series will focus on chapters 3 and 4: food during the Talmudic Era (also known as the first millennium of the Common Era)\, and part three of the series will discuss chapters 5 and 6: food during the Medieval Era. Chava is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York harbor in 1899. Ahmad is a jinni\, a being of fire born in the ancient Syrian desert\, trapped in an old copper flask\, and released in New York City\, though still not entirely free. \nAhmad and Chava become unlikely friends and soul mates with a mystical connection. Marvelous and compulsively readable\, Helene Wecker’s debut novel The Golem and the Jinni weaves strands of Yiddish and Middle Eastern literature\, historical fiction and magical fable\, into a wondrously inventive and unforgettable tale. \nThis book is available from NLS as DB76801 for audio.
