SUMMARY:Guggenheim Mind’s Eye featuring Stephanie Dinkins: The Stories We Tell Our Machines
DESCRIPTION:What stories should we tell our machines? Join us on June 10 for a special virtual program with artist Stephanie Dinkins\, the inaugural recipient of the LG Guggenheim Award. Whether through chatbots\, virtual and augmented reality\, or gallery experiences\, Dinkins’s work addresses communities who are excessively affected by poor code design. She will share how her practice explores the ways in which artificial intelligence can create equitable social and technological ecosystems and how our human stories can contribute. \nThis month’s Guggenheim Mind’s Eye programming will be led by Dinkins in collaboration with Guggenheim educators through verbal description and conversation. This interactive virtual session will be accessible by web link or by dial-in phone number\, depending on your preference. \nFree\, but space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Natalie Portman gives a virtuosic\, Oscar-winning turn as Nina Sayers\, a sheltered but intensely driven young dancer with a ballet company in New York City\, on the verge of getting her big break: a chance to perform the dual role of the Black and White Swans in the company’s production of Swan Lake. When the talented\, worldly Lily (Mila Kunis) joins the company\, Nina fears that her own claim to the role could be in jeopardy\, and begins to experience hallucinations\, buckling under the compounding pressures and expectations imposed by the dance company’s icy\, egomaniacal artistic director (Vincent Cassel); her mother (Barbara Hershey)\, herself a former ballerina\, with whom Nina shares a claustrophobic city apartment; and her embittered predecessor\, the company’s recently ousted prima ballerina (Winona Ryder).
