SUMMARY:Who Belongs? Stories Against a Narrowing World (PEN America World Voices Festival 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Globally\, political and cultural forces are aligning to narrowly define national identities. Surging book bans\, the outlawing of languages\, the erasure of histories from official records\, and the censorship of words increasingly limit who belongs and delineate who is other. Literature subverts that. \nFor the festival’s closing night event\, PEN America President Dinaw Mengestu will convene prominent international writers to discuss how literature champions a diversity of cultures and reflects the multiple heritages\, customs\, and traditions we all carry. SUMMARY:Rheology - American Sign Language (ASL) Interpretation
DESCRIPTION:After a critically-acclaimed run last spring\, Playwrights Horizons presents Rheology! Written and directed by Shayok Misha Chowdhury (2024 Obie winner and Pulitzer finalist)\, the piece features both Misha and an Obie Award-winning performance from his physicist mother\, Bulbul Chakraborty. \nSynopsis: In Rheology\, Shayok Misha Chowdhury joins forces with his physicist mother\, Bulbul Chakraborty. Bulbul is obsessed with the mystery of sand: how it flows like a liquid\, but then jams into a solid. Misha is obsessed with his mother. But they’re running out of time. In this boundary-pushing collaboration\, an artist son and his scientist mother challenge each other to a high-stakes experiment. \nThis performance will feature American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for Deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons. Interpreters stand in a clearly visible position onstage and interpret the spoken and auditory elements of the performance using American Sign Language. SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: Voices of a People's History
DESCRIPTION:The works of Brooklyn-born author and historian Howard Zinn (1922–2010)\, particularly the classic bestsellers A People’s History of the United States and Voices of a People’s History of the United States\, continue to shine a light on the extraordinary history of those engaged in struggles for freedom and justice in America. Since 2009\, Lincoln Center has found a meaningful partner in Voices of a People’s History\, a non-profit organization of artists and educators who seek to keep Zinn’s message of grassroots egalitarianism alive. This night of readings and performances features students from The Judith S. Kaye School\, Urban Academy\, N.Y.C Lab School\, and Spruce Street School.
