DESCRIPTION:Join Ballet Hispánico\, the nation’s largest Latinx cultural organization and one of America’s cultural treasures\, for an intimate and engaging celebration of the beauty and diversity of Hispanic cultures through dance. \nThis event is part of Lincoln Center Moments\, a free performance-based program specially designed for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. \nPerformances at 11:00 am are Relaxed Performances\, designed for a neurodiverse audience. In addition to audiences impacted by dementia\, these performances are also open to adults with developmental disabilities. \nPerformances at 1:00 pm are followed by an hour-long workshop specially designed for audiences impacted by dementia—facilitated by educators and music therapists that explore the work through discussion\, movement\, music\, and art-making. \nThis event is part of Lincoln Center Moments. SUMMARY:Electric Root Presents The Sound of (Black) Music
DESCRIPTION:Gospel\, funk\, soul\, and Afrobeat come together in this joyful presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein songs as viewed through a utopian\, afrofuturistic lens. The Sound of (Black) Music is a vibrant one-act concert reimagining of the classic musical\, featuring songs such as “Do-Re-Mi\,” “Edelweiss\,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain\,” all recast through a Black Roots music kaleidoscope. Created for 20 musicians and vocalists curated by Michael Mwenso and Jono Gasparro\, in association with Electric Root\, co-directed by Shariffa Ali and Kamilah Long with arrangements by Mathis Picard and music direction by Charenee Wade\, the concert channels the singular musical gifts of some of today’s most talented Black musicians into an overflowing celebration of Black Roots music. The event will include artmaking activities inspired by Ruth Asawa’s ink drawing and stamping practices\, and will be held in the Whitney Museum’s Susan and John Hess Family Theater. This event will be in ASL and will not have voice interpretation. To request interpretation for Tactile\, Protactile\, International Sign Language\, another language\, or additional accommodations\, including Braille\, please email accessfeedback@whitney.org or call (646) 666-5574 (relay calls welcome) with two weeks’ notice.
