In the great tradition of slapstick comedians like The Three Stooges\, La Compagnie Zolobe’s clown trio uses physical comedy and body language to tell their story while remaining completely silent. They are accompanied by a musician who plays traditional instruments: kabosy (a rectangular guitar) and djembe (drum). The word sakasaka means “thirsty” in Malagasy and\, using just a mop\, bucket and a few bottles of water\, the clowns take audiences on hilarious adventures that gently and sincerely explore the preciousness of water. Laugh out loud and learn important lessons as you go on a journey of dance\, music\, splashes\, and joy!

DESCRIPTION:Posters are a visual medium. How can they be made more accessible to the blind and low vision community? Poster House is thrilled to welcome Finnegan Shannon (they/them) and Bojana Coklyat (she/her) as they lead visitors through a workshop on how to reframe alt text (short\, written descriptions of images) as a type of poetry. Inspired by posters from the museum’s collection\, visitors will practice writing\, discussing\, and reframing this type of accessible writing. To learn more about this larger project\, visit the Alt Text as Poetry website. \nAccessibility Notes: \nAn ASL interpreter and assistive listening devices will be provided. Seating will include stools and chairs. SUMMARY:La Banda Chuska
DESCRIPTION:La Banda Chuska merges the sounds of vintage Peruvian cumbia and psychedelic chicha with 1960s Latin American and Middle Eastern surf rock. They then add a dose of the surreal intensity of New York City to amplify their diverse musical and cultural backgrounds: Peru\, Argentina\, Puerto Rico\, and various corners of the U.S. The result is a fireball of post-punk energy and subversive playfulness\, a sort of tropical funk meets The B-52s. La Banda Chuska’s self-titled EP is a darkly cinematic\, musically expansive\, and eminently danceable weirdo party on wax that’s whipped up the fanbase they attract at regular performances at Brooklyn’s Barbés and other NYC music mainstays. For their Lincoln Center debut\, they’ll play songs from their first EP and introduce new cuts from their forthcoming LP.

It is July which means it is Disability Pride Month. In the face of unwavering violence\, Pride is a complicating energy to hold. It is neither just the appreciation of progress nor an acknowledgement of one’s efforts. Pride is a collective rally into the necessity of and our presence to dignity—in living\, in death\, in sorrow\, in celebration. The dignity of ourselves as individuals within a network of many. The dignity of our breathing. The dignity of our struggle. The dignity of our being here now\, our being there then\, our will to be again. Learn the basics of this modern printing technique while creating your own print. \n4pm Crip Camp Screening\nCrip Camp is a documentary that tells the story of Camp Jened\, a summer camp for people with disabilities\, and the role the camp played in spurring the 1990 passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Learn more about this important piece of American and disabled history\, including the little-known role the Black Panther Party played in supporting disability advocates. \n5pm D/deaf & Hard-of-hearing Mixer\nPoster House is pleased to welcome New York City Black Deaf Advocates for a D/deaf and hard-of-hearing mixer. Join us at Café des Affiches to mix and mingle in a Deaf/hard-of-hearing affirming environment. Hawks will recount the relief of their autism diagnosis\, delve into the mysteries of bathroom lines\, tell tales about eating compliment sandwiches\, and probably say a thing or two about snails. \n7:15pm Stella Rise Performance\nPoster House is pleased to welcome Stella Rise\, New York City’s premiere disabled drag queen\, to the museum for a special performance! DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Pride Month at Frick Madison! This free event invites visitors to spend a summer evening among the Frick’s treasures. Attend themed talks\, listen to live jazz in our outdoor café\, and try your hand at figure drawing with drag artist Gloria Swansong. All night long\, escape the heat with after-hours access to our galleries and reading room—including a special new pastel mural by artist Nicolas Party. \nComplimentary refreshments from The SisterYard will be provided. Gallery talks will explore pastels by Nicolas Party and Rosalba Carriera\, Pride-themed selections from the Frick Art Reference Library\, and J. M. W. Turner’s Harbor of Dieppe. Plus\, get a final glimpse of the gold and gems on display in our decorative arts exhibition The Gregory Gift\, closing soon. \nAmerican Sign Language interpretation and Assistive Listening Devices will be available at all the talks.
