We will share our strategic plan\, ongoing projects\, and unveil HueCultures Northeast—the first phase of a national research initiative to amplify\, map\, and connect culturally-specific institutions led by Black\, Indigenous\, Latino/x\, Asian\, and all People of Color. SUMMARY:Steel Pulse
DESCRIPTION:T \nhe songs of the GRAMMY Award-winning roots reggae ensemble Steel Pulse helped to popularize the reggae diaspora across the US and Europe. Their continually electrifying live performances on stages around the globe have kept Steel Pulse’s legacy alive for the next generation of artists and audiences. As part of Lincoln Center’s celebration of Jamaica Day\, a jubilation of the island nation’s culture and history\, Steel Pulse will perform a full-length concert\, featuring founding members David Hinds and Selwyn Brown and tracks from the band’s formidable catalog. \nRun time: approximately 1 hour 45 minutes \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Guest Experience at 212-875-5456 or guestexperience@lincolncenter.org. \nLive captioning available on personal devices by scanning a QR code.

SUMMARY:Once on This Island: In American Sign Language by Deaf Broadway
DESCRIPTION:In just four short years\, Deaf Broadway has become synonymous with authentically Deaf musical theater. Founded during the pandemic in response to artistic director Garrett Zuercher’s experience as a profoundly Deaf person frustrated with the state of access to performances of lyrically complex musicals\, which often watered down the nuances of the original language and intentions. Taking up the gauntlet\, he and his team began producing American Sign Language interfaces to pre-existing recordings of popular musicals\, simultaneously presenting the original music alongside a live cast of trained Deaf actors\, all performing their individual parts in American Sign Language. This live staging of the beloved Broadway musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty offers a more fully equitable shared evening for hearing and Deaf audiences alike\, with a full Deaf Broadway cast interpreting the music in person. Their latest performance was a smash staging of Jonathan Larson’s RENT this spring as part of Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Guest Experience at 212-875-5456 or guestexperience@lincolncenter.org. \n\n\n\nPerformance in American Sign Language and Open Captioning available.

SUMMARY:Patrice Roberts
DESCRIPTION:Every year at Carnival\, hundreds of artists from across the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago submit songs and compete to be crowned either the International Soca Monarch or the winner of the Carnival Road March. Their tracks glorify the sweet sound of soca\, a regional fusion of funk\, calypso\, electronic dance\, reggae\, zouk\, R&B\, dance pop and whatever tunes are moving the crowd on the date of the festival. Lincoln Center celebrates the enduring spirit and joy of soca music with an unforgettable show from Trini Carnival legend and crossover star Patrice Roberts. One of the genre’s most prominent female voices\, Roberts has been entertaining island audiences for nearly two decades as a luminary in Carnival competitions\, including a 2006 Road March victory with Machel Montano. Her hit “Mind My Business” is the most streamed soca song in the world; don’t miss it and other unstoppable singles live! \nRun time: approximately 2 hours 30 minutes \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Guest Experience at 212-875-5456 or guestexperience@lincolncenter.org. \n\nLive captioning available on personal devices by scanning a QR code

SUMMARY:La Casita
DESCRIPTION:In 2001\, Lincoln Center set the scene for the first La Casita\, a citywide\, intentionally-inclusive festival celebrating poetry and music\, grounded in the principle that New York City is best represented by presenting the artistic traditions of its most underserved communities. This year\, La Casita’s curators have assembled a stellar cast of poets and musicians around the themes of lineage and heritage\, mining tradition and bloodline through the lens of provenance. This year’s line up\, hosted by 2012 Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion Eboni Hogan\, includes reading from Bronx-born “lingualisualist” Edwin Torres\, Latinx educator and “artivist” Jessica Diaz\, poet and playwright Nancy Mercado\, and cultural organizer and author Sonia Guiñansaca. This installment of La Casita also features musical performances from the dynamic Brazilian singer-songwriter Luca Mundaca\, and the enchanting New York City-based traditional Bulgarian women’s choir\, Yasna Voices. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Guest Experience at 212-875-5456 or guestexperience@lincolncenter.org. \n\n\n\nWill include American Sign Language interpretation.

SUMMARY:The Ritual of Breath Is the Rite to Resist
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth \nThe Ritual of Breath is a transdisciplinary opera and creative act of resistance. Born from the vibrant collaboration between composer Jonathan Berger\, visual artist Enrico Riley and poet/librettist Vievee Francis\, the work responds to the murder of Eric Garner and the ongoing theft of Black life at the hands of the State. Music\, text\, projected visuals and movement interweave in a story centered on Garner’s daughter\, Erica. Uplifted by a 75-person choir of singers\, the project gathers us together as co-conspirers—to breathe and keep breathing any way we can. \nThe Ritual of Breath is more than an opera. It is an offering for the city\, coinciding with the 10-year commemoration of Garner’s death. Through community partnerships from Harlem to Staten Island\, we invite you to join in community activations and collective rituals of healing. Learn more here » \nThe work is directed by Niegel Smith\, the pioneering theater artist and artistic director of The Flea; conducted by American Prize-winning Kamna Gupta; with choreography by founder of Urban Bush Women Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. The Ritual of Breath is grounded in work by the creative team with activist Dr. Shamell Bell and a group of mothers who have lost their children to state-sanctioned violence\, including Gwen Carr\, Eric Garner’s mother. \nCommissioned and produced by Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth. Co-commissioned by Stanford Live. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Guest Experience at 212-875-5456 or guestexperience@lincolncenter.org. \nCommunity activations beginning at 7:30 pm; more details coming soon. \nWill include American Sign Language interpretation and Open Captioning.
