SUMMARY:Lincoln Center: Sound Mind - Music & Mental Health From Schumann to Today
DESCRIPTION:How has music helped us give voice to emotional complexity and support mental health across time? Robert Schumann’s music gave form to inner conflict\, vulnerability\, and emotional intensity—offering a powerful example of how creative expression can hold psychological intricacy when words fall short. Today\, growing evidence shows that engagement with music and the arts can support emotional regulation\, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression\, and foster connection\, meaning\, and hope amidst adversity. Bringing together artists\, clinicians\, and scholars\, this conversation traces the enduring relationship between music and mental health\, from Schumann’s era to contemporary practice. Together\, speakers invite audiences to consider how music continues to help us listen more closely to the mind\, deepen empathy\, and create spaces for reflection and healing. This panel will feature closed captioning. \nThis event will begin with members of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center playing a selection from Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor. \n\nThis event is General Admission\, first-come first-served. Just show up!

SUMMARY:The Precipice
DESCRIPTION:With the New York premiere of her bold new musical\, The Precipice\, composer\, lyricist\, and performer Miranda Ferriss Jones returns to Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium. As with her previous show\, Spiral Bound\, Miranda brings together a majority-women collective spanning generations and disciplines\, including Jones herself alongside Tony Award winner Laura Benanti. With The Precipice\, Jones asks the question\, “What will you do when they come for your wild?” This original\, feminist fairytale follows Iris and Polly\, daughters of Lady Midnight\, Goddess of Dreams. Each embodies half of their mother: Polly\, the dark\, and Iris\, the light. Separated on Earth and raised in vastly different worlds\, they reunite as teenagers and must fight to preserve their identities. This mythic coming-of-age tale affirms the greatest threat to an oppressive society is a sisterhood bound together by unbridled freedom and radical love.

DESCRIPTION:A finalist for the 2025 Eugene O’Neill Playwrights Conference\, THE JAZMINES: a rage play – and for legal reasons\, a parody takes place in a satirical multiverse of choice and cost. In THE JAZMINES\, brown artists compete for space in the American theater canon\, negotiating their professional wins with the loss of their personal relationships. Witness the Lincoln Center debut of this new work by author/star Jasmine Sharma (Twelfth Night) with music by composer Xander Browne and direction by Asmeret Ghebremichael (Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York\, The Notebook).

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: Él y Ella
DESCRIPTION:At the intersection of a love story and an immigrant journey\, Él y Ella is inspired by the true story of two Mexican artists who fall in love and move to New York on a whim. The rom-com musical blends mariachi\, cumbia\, ranchera\, corrido\, and norteña traditions into a vibrant Spanglish score performed by four multi-instrumentalists. Walk alongside the characters as they experience the exhilaration and sacrifice of building a life through art without losing sight of their roots while raising their Mexican-American son. At its heart\, Él y Ella asks: How much of ourselves are we willing to sacrifice in pursuit of our dreams? \nThere are two ways to access this free event:\n1. General Admission\, first-come first-served. SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: Dorsey - The Musical
DESCRIPTION:From smoke-filled clubs to church congregations and the birth of a musical sound that would change the world\, Dorsey – The Musical tells the electrifying true story of Thomas Andrew Dorsey. A self-taught composer and pianist who would go on to pen thousands of original songs\, Dorsey was a pivotal figure in the development of ragtime\, blues\, and contemporary American gospel music\, laying the foundation for our country’s rich tradition of popular song. Some of Dorsey’s best known works include “Precious Lord\, Take My Hand\,” “If I Can Hear My Mother Pray Again\,” and “Peace in the Valley\,” each of which has been recorded and turned into hits by some of the 20th century’s greatest performers\, including Elvis Presley\, Mahalia Jackson\, Gertude “Ma” Rainey\, and Aretha Franklin. We meet Dorsey in mid-1920s Chicago\, caught between two cultures but on the cusp of his eureka moment: fusing blues structure with sacred text. We follow him through staunch opposition\, tempting success\, and personal tragedy on his way to inventing the modern gospel choir. Be among the first to experience the true story of one of our nation’s musical heroes at this live reading of a new musical in process. \nThere are two ways to access this free event:\n1. General Admission\, first-come first-served. SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: La vie secrète des vieux (The Secret Life of Old People)
DESCRIPTION:*Please note: This performance contains adult themes. It also features atmospheric smoke\, fog\, or haze. Audience discretion is advised.  \n  \nDoes growing old mean the end of love? On a ballroom dance floor\, seven elderly men and women speak openly about love\, intimacy\, and sexuality\, directly challenging taboos about aging. Drawing on verbatim testimonies gathered from seniors between the ages of 75 to 102\, La vie secrète des vieux (The Secret Life of Old People)\, described by The Guardian as “gallows humor and unzipped ribaldry… joyful\, tender and sometimes eye-watering\,” is a humorous and deeply moving documentary theater work that constructs a lucid and disarming portrait of the reinvention of desire. French-Moroccan artist Mohamed El Khatib\, a leading voice in international theater\, maps a landscape of longing and gives proof to the promise that love can find a home within the fragility of life\, right up to the last moment. \nPerformed in French with English supertitles \nMember Pre-sale: October 28 at noon\nGeneral On-sale: November 4 at noon \nNot a Friend of Lincoln Center?
SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: Spotlight: Strange Fruit
DESCRIPTION:*Please note: This performance contains partial nudity and other adult themes. Audience discretion is advised. \nBrought to life by the prolific\, award-winning producer Venus Cuffs\, Spotlight: Strange Fruit is an artistic intervention created to offer a new point of view\, one that insists history must not repeat itself. Inspired by Billie Holiday’s haunting and powerful performance of “Strange Fruit”—a protest song born from one of America’s most painful chapters—this show honors the resilience\, strength\, and enduring legacy of African Americans. Through dance and spoken word\, this new work reframes the iconic anti-lynching anthem as a timeless expression of power\, remembrance\, and resolve for modern times. \nThere are two ways to access this free event:\n1. General Admission\, first-come first-served. Just show up!\n2. Fast Track opening the Monday before the event at noon. Or\, become a Member and enjoy priority entry with automatic access to every Fast Track line\, all year round.
