Alice Sheppard and Laurel Lawson from Kinetic Light will be presenting a work-in-progress excerpt from their newest dance work\, The Next T.i.M.es\, and additional Kinetic Light works. \nWorking in the disciplines of art\, technology\, design\, and dance\, Kinetic Light creates\, performs\, and teaches at the nexus of access\, queerness\, disability\, dance\, and race. The company is led by disabled artists; disabled artists create\, design\, and perform the work. A Bessie award-winning choreographer\, Sheppard creates movement that challenges conventional understandings of disabled and dancing bodies. \nLaurel Lawson (flexible pronouns) is a choreographic collaborator\, dancer\, designer\, and engineer with Kinetic Light. She is the primary costume and makeup designer and designs the wheelchairs that she and Alice use in performance. Laurel is also the product designer and lead for access\, software\, and access curriculum initiatives\, including Kinetic Light’s signature program Access ALLways.

They are playful and eager for attention. \nSince 1991\, Close-Act Theatre from The Netherlands (founded by Hesther Melief and Tonny Aerts)\, has specialized in large-scale\, interactive street theater for everyone. The company’s unique form of elevated performance is performed in\, between\, and above the public. Close-Act’s creations have been performed around the globe. To learn more about relaxed performances\, visit this page. \nJonathon Heyward\, conductor \nLudwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 6 (“Pastoral”) \nAs part of Summer for the City\, we are delighted to invite you to a free Open Rehearsal with the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center on July 23\, 2024 from 10:30–11:45 am at David Geffen Hall. This Relaxed Rehearsal will provide a peek behind the scenes as the Festival Orchestra prepares a piece for performance. Bask in Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony\, inspired by his love of nature and walks in the country. \nWhat to expect at a Relaxed Open Rehearsal:–Guests are able to enter and leave the audience space throughout the event\, as needed.–Guests can vocalize or move throughout audience space.–Fellow audience members are asked to create a no “shushing” zone.–House lights are adjusted so that venue is never fully dark.–Attention to bright lights\, loud noises\, and surprise sensory elements are described in advance.–Chill Out Space is available for guests to take a break and rejoin the rehearsal when ready.–A visual guide\, with clear instructions\, will be shared before event.–Noise-reducing headphones and fidgets are available to borrow.–Staff members and artists are trained in access and inclusion best practices. \nPlease note: This is a working rehearsal\, open to an audience to observe. SUMMARY:Autism-Friendly Access Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Join the artists of New York City Ballet in these movement workshops designed especially for children with autism and their families. \nDuring these one-hour events\, children will be guided in a ballet-based warm-up and choreography inspired by a featured ballet being performed this season. Workshops feature live piano accompaniment and a designated quiet space will be available. A visual story will be sent prior to the event to give your child advance notice of what will be happening during the workshop. \nNo prior dance experience is necessary and siblings are encouraged to participate. \nTICKET PRICING\n$8 per participating child. Please note that accompanying family members/caretakers do not need a ticket to attend.  \nOnce registered\, you will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire providing more information on how we can best meet the needs of your child. \nATTIRE\nClothing that is comfortable to move in.
