SUMMARY:ASL-Interpreted Performance: "The Antiquities"
DESCRIPTION:The Antiquities \nWritten by Jordan Harrison\nDirected by David Comer & Caitlin Sullivan\nCo-produced with the Vineyard Theatre and the Goodman Theatre \nDate & Time: Thursday\, February 13th\, 2025 at 7:30 pm EST \nLocation:  416 West 42 Street\nNew York\, NY 10036 \nAbout the Event: At the Museum of Late Human Antiquities\, the curators are fiercely committed to bringing a lost civilization to life again: What were humans really like? What did they wear\, what did they eat\, how did they die out? By casting us into the far future\, Jordan Harrison’s new play gives us an uncanny view of the present moment\, as we straddle the analog world that was and the post-human world to come.

SUMMARY:Brooklyn Talks: Paola Mendoza and Paola Ramos
DESCRIPTION:7–9 pm \nIris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium\, 3rd Floor \n\nGet tickets\nJoin journalist Paola Ramos and filmmaker Paola Mendoza for a thought-provoking conversation on two of the nation’s most important and misunderstood communities: Latinos and immigrants. From the rise of authoritarian forces and anti-immigrant rhetoric to the spread of misinformation\, Ramos and Mendoza will touch on pressing issues facing American political and cultural life. In tandem with the release of their books SOLIS and Defectors\, the two authors reflect on how Latino and immigrant communities shape the nation. Together they will explore storytelling’s power to help us understand these issues and to inspire change. \nSOLIS\, Mendoza’s dystopian YA novel\, tells the tale of undocumented immigrants subjected to labor camps and a teen-led contingent that plots to liberate its community. Ramos’s new nonfiction book\, Defectors\, unravels the assumption that Democrats can rely on a monolithic Latino vote by sharing stories of Latino voters who have aligned with the conservative movement. \nTickets are $10 ($6 for Members) and include after-hours admission to the American Art galleries. Not a Member? Join today! Add copies of SOLIS and Defectors at checkout. \nThis program will include ASL interpretation. For visitors with disabilities or accessibility needs\, email access@brooklynmuseum.org. \n

SUMMARY:Once on This Island: In American Sign Language by Deaf Broadway
DESCRIPTION:In just four short years\, Deaf Broadway has become synonymous with authentically Deaf musical theater. Founded during the pandemic in response to artistic director Garrett Zuercher’s experience as a profoundly Deaf person frustrated with the state of access to performances of lyrically complex musicals\, which often watered down the nuances of the original language and intentions. Taking up the gauntlet\, he and his team began producing American Sign Language interfaces to pre-existing recordings of popular musicals\, simultaneously presenting the original music alongside a live cast of trained Deaf actors\, all performing their individual parts in American Sign Language. This live staging of the beloved Broadway musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty offers a more fully equitable shared evening for hearing and Deaf audiences alike\, with a full Deaf Broadway cast interpreting the music in person. Their latest performance was a smash staging of Jonathan Larson’s RENT this spring as part of Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, please contact Guest Experience at 212-875-5456 or guestexperience@lincolncenter.org. \n\n\n\nPerformance in American Sign Language and Open Captioning available.
