SUMMARY:Cooper Hewitt | ASL Tour | Made in America
DESCRIPTION:The ASL Tour is exclusive to visitors who are Deaf\, hard of hearing\, and their companions.  \n\nJoin us for an American Sign Language (ASL) tour of Made in America: The Industrial Photography of Christopher Payne.  \nThis exhibition brings together more than 70 large-format photographs captured by Christopher Payne over a decade-long photographic journey to learn more about the craft of both industrial and artisanal making in the United States. His images celebrate the combination of human skill and mechanical precision that transform raw materials into objects as diverse as pencils\, semiconductors\, pianos\, and rockets.  \nFollowing the tour\, participants attend a lecture with photographer Christopher Payne\, former New York Times photography editor Kathy Ryan\, and bestselling author Rachel Slade for a wide-ranging conversation around Payne’s Made in America project to document industrial manufacturing across the United States. Learn more about the lecture happening after this program.   \nRegistration is required. The ASL Tour and subsequent program are free for visitors who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing and their companions.  \nLearn more about upcoming ASL Tour programs.   \n\nAccessibility and What to Expect \n\nFormat: Tours involve navigating around the museum and standing in galleries for extended periods of time; standard manual wheelchairs\, rollators\, and portable stools are available for those who need them. There will be a 15-minute break after the ASL Tour before the lecture program begins.\n\n\nAbout this space: Gallery stools are available. The museum is fully wheelchair accessible. There is an accessible restroom on the ground floor. Read more about accessibility at Cooper Hewitt.\n\n\nAccommodations: ASL Interpreters will be available for the ASL Tour and subsequent lecture program. CART Captioning will also be available for the lecture program.  We welcome questions and accommodation requests that support your participation. Email us at CHAccess@si.edu or call 212.849.8384. Please make your request as far in advance as possible—preferably at least ten days before the program date.

SUMMARY:ASL Tour: Anish Kapoor: Early Works
DESCRIPTION:ASL Tour: Anish Kapoor: Early Works\nFor Participants in the ASL Community\nJan. 25\, 20263:00 pm – 5:00 pm\nFloor 2 Galleries\nProgram Registration\n\n \nParticipants in the ASL community are invited to explore the exhibition Anish Kapoor: Early Works through a tour led by a Deaf educator. Please join us from 3 – 3:30 for light refreshments. \nAnish Kapoor: Early Works presents his rarely seen pigment sculptures from the 1970s and 1980s along with works on paper and the artist’s sketchbooks. The exhibition foregrounds Kapoor’s early and ongoing investigations of the boundaries of sculpture\, color\, and form. His work plays with perception\, drawing on the psychic effects of color—and its absence—as well as the allure of objects that appear to defy their own material nature. \nDue to limited capacity\, ASL students will not be admitted to the program and no voice interpretation will be provided.  \nAll Access Programs are free of charge and require advance reservation. If you have any questions or need accommodations\, please contact access@thejm.org or 212.423.3289. If you are interested in observing this program\, please reach out to us before registering.

SUMMARY:No Singing in the Navy – ASL-Interpreted Performance
DESCRIPTION:Playwrights Horizons presents No Singing in the Navy\, written by Milo Cramer and directed by Aysan Celik. \nWith a hundred bucks in hand and 24 hours on leave\, three silly sailors attempt to live as much life as possible before being shipped off to war and certain death. This irreverent new musical is a three-actor\, one-piano attack on the “golden age” of musicals — a delightfully sardonic explosion of the myth of American innocence. \nThis performance will feature American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for Deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons. \nClosed Captioning via GalaPro is available at all performances post-opening. Discounted tickets are available through the Access Passport Program. For full accessibility details and ticket information\, please visit www.phnyc.org.

SUMMARY:Rheology - American Sign Language (ASL) Interpretation
DESCRIPTION:After a critically-acclaimed run last spring\, Playwrights Horizons presents Rheology! Written and directed by Shayok Misha Chowdhury (2024 Obie winner and Pulitzer finalist)\, the piece features both Misha and an Obie Award-winning performance from his physicist mother\, Bulbul Chakraborty. \nSynopsis: In Rheology\, Shayok Misha Chowdhury joins forces with his physicist mother\, Bulbul Chakraborty. In this boundary-pushing collaboration\, an artist son and his scientist mother challenge each other to a high-stakes experiment. \nThis performance will feature American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for Deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons. Interpreters stand in a clearly visible position onstage and interpret the spoken and auditory elements of the performance using American Sign Language. Designated seating is reserved to provide d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members with the best sightlines to the interpreters. For more information on scheduled ASL-Interpreted performances or to reserve designated seating\, please contact accessibility@phnyc.org.

SUMMARY:ASL Tour: Paul Klee: Other Possible Worlds
DESCRIPTION:Participants in the ASL community are invited to explore the exhibition Paul Klee: Other Possible Worlds through a tour led by a Deaf educator. Please join us from 3:30 – 4 pm for light refreshments. \nPaul Klee: Other Possible Worlds marks the first American museum exhibition to focus on the artist’s late work. In 1933\, Klee was forced to flee Germany in the face of Nazi persecution. His work was denounced as ‘degenerate\,’ a term used by Hitler to stigmatize artists and their art. In this period of exile Klee developed a new style\, one that was poetic\, exploratory\, and an artistic rebellion against authoritarianism. \nDue to limited capacity\, ASL students will not be admitted to the program and no voice interpretation will be provided.  \nAll Access Programs are free of charge and require advance reservation. If you have any questions or need accommodations\, please contact access@thejm.org or 212-423-3289. If you are interested in observing this program\, please reach out to us before registering.

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: The Ocean Etched in the Forest
DESCRIPTION:Lincoln Center presents a major work from the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and performer Du Yun. Born in China and currently based in New York City\, Du Yun’s insatiable curiosity finds new voice in The Ocean Etched in the Forest (刻在森林的海). Over the past several years\, Du Yun and her collaborator Julian Crouch have worked closely with Jino artists from Yunnan province\, including He Guiying\, the national inheritor of his people’s unique heritage. Living almost entirely isolated from urban society until 1979\, the Jino people have maintained their distinct culture and ecologically grounded mindset amid rampant modernization. In collaboration with Du Yun and Crouch\, Guiying has been recording Jino children from Bapiao Village as they perform nearly forgotten local folk songs. These recordings\, merged with music from Du Yun’s band OK MISS and live theatrical elements\, form Ocean’s original musical tapestry for a concert that transcends time and geography. Join us for a work that highlights the intersections of ancient tradition and modern methodology\, folk tales and contemporary storytelling\, and generations living and gone. Both showings will feature open captioning. The 2pm showing is a Relaxed Performance. \nThis performance is commissioned by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Beijing Music Festival. The world premiere of Ocean Etched in the Forest took place at the Beijing Music Festival\, followed by the North American Premiere as part of the Lincoln Center Presents Summer for the City 2026. \nTo book your ticket\, visit this website. To make the arts more accessible\, tickets are available on a Choose-What-You-Pay basis. Select the ticket value that’s right for you\, knowing your contribution helps expand access for all.

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Presents: Inside the Orchestra - Intersection and Inspiration
DESCRIPTION:Join Erin Lunsford Norton (Associate Director\, Classical Programming)\, Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center musicians\, and guest artists for an inside look at the lives of orchestral musicians and insights into the evening’s concert program. In this pre-concert talk\, Norton and her guests explore the many ways composers and musicians inspire each other to move orchestral music forward. The three composers on the evening’s program (Debussy\, de Falla\, and Poulenc) intersected with and inspired each others’ music in profound ways. Together we will explore how these kinds of musical intersections and relationships in our modern world continue to fuel the development of orchestral music\, and push it in exciting new directions. Closed captioning available. \nThis event will begin with members of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center playing a selection from Francis Poulenc’s Trio for Oboe\, Bassoon\, and Piano and Lili Boulanger’s Cortège. \n\nThis event is General Admission\, first-come first-served. SUMMARY:Lincoln Center: Raising Our Voices - Collective Singing\, Wellbeing & Global Health
DESCRIPTION:What if singing together were recognized as a shared health practice for individuals and communities? Collective singing is one of the most powerful wellbeing practices humans share. From lullabies and community choirs to spontaneous public song\, singing together is a universal behavior linked to stress reduction\, improved mood\, social bonding\, and physiological regulation. A growing body of research shows that group singing can support mental wellbeing\, reduce loneliness\, and strengthen social connection—protective factors central to World Health Organization (WHO) priorities for population health and noncommunicable disease prevention. Bringing together voices from music\, neuroscience\, public health\, and community practice\, this event explores how collective singing can be understood not only as cultural expression\, but as a scalable public health resource. Audiences are invited to reflect on how raising our voices together can help build healthier bodies\, stronger relationships\, and more connected communities. This panel will feature closed captioning. \nThis event will begin with members of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center playing selections from William Grant Still’s Motherless Child and George Gershwin’s Lullaby. \nThis event is General Admission\, first-come first-served. SUMMARY:Lincoln Center: Sound Mind - Music & Mental Health From Schumann to Today
DESCRIPTION:How has music helped us give voice to emotional complexity and support mental health across time? Robert Schumann’s music gave form to inner conflict\, vulnerability\, and emotional intensity—offering a powerful example of how creative expression can hold psychological intricacy when words fall short. Today\, growing evidence shows that engagement with music and the arts can support emotional regulation\, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression\, and foster connection\, meaning\, and hope amidst adversity. Bringing together artists\, clinicians\, and scholars\, this conversation traces the enduring relationship between music and mental health\, from Schumann’s era to contemporary practice. Together\, speakers invite audiences to consider how music continues to help us listen more closely to the mind\, deepen empathy\, and create spaces for reflection and healing. This panel will feature closed captioning. \nThis event will begin with members of the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center playing a selection from Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor. \n\nThis event is General Admission\, first-come first-served. Just show up!
