7–9 pm

Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor

How can we memorialize and visualize the extraordinary loss of life caused by COVID-19? In this conversation, media artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer discusses the unique demands of commemorating cultural trauma through public art with Sekou Cooke—architect, researcher, and founding member of the Black Reconstruction Collective—and Paul Farber, director of Monument Lab, which facilitates critical conversations around the past, present, and future of monuments. In our special exhibition A Crack in the Hourglass, An Ongoing COVID-19 Memorial, Lozano-Hemmer’s ephemeral “anti-monument” brings physical and digital together to create space for visitors to mourn loved ones who died during the pandemic. Audio from this conversation will be available in an upcoming episode of the Monument Lab podcast.

Tickets are $16 and include after-hours access to Rafael Lozano-Hemmer: A Crack in the Hourglass, An Ongoing COVID-19 Memorial. Member tickets are $14. Not a Member? Join today!

This program will include ASL interpretation. For access needs, please email us at access@brooklynmuseum.org.
