January 22, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$16

12–5 pm

Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art Forum, 4th Floor; Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor; Overlook Gallery, 4th Floor

Join us for an afternoon of art, film, and storytelling on the fiftieth anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision and the opening weekend of Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter: Ain’t I a Woman.

12–5 pm Abortion Stories USA BK
Forum
Since the dismantling of Roe in 2022, activists and artists have hosted “abortion story shares” as a tool for community-building, healing, and transforming public opinion. Participate in one by listening to stories from people who have had an abortion and, if desired, sharing your own. Initiated by artist and organizer Rebecca Goyette, Abortion Stories USA celebrates the bodily autonomy of women and queer and trans people by providing space for first-person narratives about abortion, as well as for artistic expression and mutual aid.

1:30–2 pm Exhibition Tour: Ain’t I a Woman
Overlook Gallery
Join Jaileen Pierre-Louis, former CITI Intern, Center for Feminist Art, for a tour of Baxter’s exhibition, which connects Black women’s fight for bodily autonomy to the legacy of Roe.

2–3:30 pm Screening with Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter and Catherine Morris
Auditorium
An artist, advocate, and educator, Baxter presents her documentary Ain’t I a Woman. Through the film, Baxter advocates for incarcerated women’s rights and prison abolition by delving into her own harrowing experience of being shackled for forty-three hours while giving birth to her son. Followed by a conversation between the artist and Catherine Morris, Sackler Senior Curator.

Masks are required, regardless of vaccination status.

Tickets are $16 and include Museum general admission. Member tickets are $14. Not a Member? Join today!
