SUMMARY:Reading Group: On Body Constructs with Aimi Hamraie
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the installation Body Constructs\, this reading group will be led by designer\, researcher\, and disability justice organizer Aimi Hamraie. We will consider new perspectives and think together through close reading of short texts with the goal of opening new ways of thinking about the creative tensions between identity\, disability\, access\, race\, and modern architecture. No prior preparation or background is necessary to participate. We will read texts together during the session and you will receive access to full texts after the session. This program is free\, open to all\, requires preregistration\, and takes place online via Zoom. \nThis session is part of our ongoing Reading Group series. Our intention is to create space for people to gather to consider a range of perspectives and think critically through a guided reading of key texts that can help illuminate new ways of looking at artwork on view in MoMA’s galleries. Our priority is to create a space that is comfortable enough for participants to take risks with their thinking and possibly find a sense of fellowship\, community\, and camaraderie with the facilitator and their fellow readers. \nFacilitator \nAimi Hamraie directs the Critical Design Lab\, a multidisciplinary and international collaborative of disabled artists\, designers\, and design researchers. They are a 2022 United States Artists Fellow and host of the Contra* podcast on disability design justice. With Cassandra Hartblay and Jarah Moesch\, Hamraie co-curated #CripRitual\, a multi-site exhibition of work by 25 disabled artists at the Tangled Arts and Disability and Doris McCarthy Galleries in Toronto. Hamraie’s creative practice spans social practice and design (wood\, leather\, textiles\, architecture\, and landscapes). Their intellectual and creative work is funded by the National Science Foundation\, the Social Science Research Council\, the Smithsonian Institution\, the Mellon Foundation\, the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Arts\, and the National Humanities Alliance. \nRegistration\nRegister for this online Reading Group on Thursday\, April 4\, 2024\, at 6:00 p.m. ET. \nAccessibility \n \nThere will be verbal descriptions for all images. A PDF of the presentation is available in advance upon request. Live CART captioning will be available. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation is available for public programs upon request with two weeks’ advance notice.

SUMMARY:Interpreting MoMA: Prints and Process
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for MoMA’s bimonthly program welcoming individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing to participate in an ASL-interpreted private gallery talk focusing on one of MoMA’s exhibitions\, along with a wine and snack reception. \nIn March\, we will explore the exhibition New Ground: Jacob Samuel and Contemporary Etching with curator Esther Adler. Master printer and publisher Jacob Samuel has brought etchings—prints created by transferring ink from a metal plate to paper—into the 21st century through collaborations with more than 60 contemporary artists. Together we will learn about the flexibility of etching and its reinvention for a contemporary world through Samuel’s printmaking tools and processes. \nInterpreting MoMA is offered free of charge. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Registration opens on February 14\, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. \nFor more information or to register\, please email AccessPrograms@moma.org or call Access Programs at (212) 408-6447.

SUMMARY:Art inSight at Home: Ed Ruscha
DESCRIPTION:Art inSight at Home is an online program for individuals who are blind or have low vision. In each session\, staff educators highlight specific themes\, artists\, or exhibitions through verbal description and discussion using the Zoom platform. \nIn this interactive session\, we will have a conversation about the current exhibition ED RUSCHA / NOW THEN with the curatorial team. Artist Ed Ruscha has recorded and transformed familiar subjects—whether roadside gasoline stations or the 20th Century Fox logo—often revisiting motifs\, sites\, or words years later. Together we will trace shifts in the artist’s means and methods over time in works that make use of everything from gunpowder to chocolate. \nArt inSight at Home is free of charge. Participants may join with the Zoom app or website\, or toll free via phone. \nSpace is limited\, and preregistration is required. Please register at least 24 hours in advance of the program to ensure you receive the Zoom login information. Register today \nFor more information\, please call Access Programs at 212-408-6447 or email AccessPrograms@moma.org.
