Get Involved

The Museum, Arts and Culture Access Consortium (MAC) relies heavily on volunteers and in-kind donations and regularly hosts meetings and events that are free or low-cost to participants. We are always seeking volunteers to support our activities, as well as donations in any amount that can help support basic operating expenses that make our work possible. Please see below for ways you can get involved with and support our work that aims to make cultural institutions in New York City more welcoming and accessible for people of all abilities, including people with disabilities.

Attend MAC Workshops and Events

MAC welcomes all members of the cultural and disability communities of the New York metro area, including museum professionals, exhibit designers, people with disabilities, and disability service providers, to join our workshops and events that address topics ranging from, “Welcoming People with Alzheimer’s Disease to Your Museum,” to “Perspectives on Autism: Art and Access,” to “Revised ADA Regulations.”

Please sign up for MAC’s e-newsletter or follow us on Facebook to receive announcements for upcoming workshops and, in the coming weeks, please visit our professional development page to view a listing of upcoming workshops and events.

Volunteer For MAC

MAC regularly seeks volunteers to support the development, implementation, and documentation of workshops and public events. Please contact info@MACAccess.org for more information about how you can contribute to upcoming workshops and events.

Donate to MAC

Although MAC relies heavily on volunteers and in-kind donations and regularly hosts meetings and events that are free or low-cost to participants, we incur operating expenses for such services as sign-language interpretation, CART, or verbal description to ensure that all attendees at events can fully participate; support for hosting this website and keeping it up-to-date; and the documentation of best practices and development of resources that can be used by cultural professionals to train staff on accessibility at their home institutions.

We appreciate your consideration in making a donation to our efforts at the Museum, Arts and Culture Access Consortium. The Museum, Arts and Culture Access Consortium is a volunteer-based association that operates as a partner project under the Fund for the City of New York, a New York-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations to the Museum, Arts and Culture Access Consortium are tax-deductible.

If you would like to speak with us about making a donation towards a specific sphere of MAC’s activities, please contact us at finance@MACAccess.org. Otherwise, all other donations will go towards the operating expenses outlined above.

For donations by mail or online, please click here to view our donation form.  All checks should be made payable to “Fund for the City of New York” but be sure to identify “Donation to MAC” on the memo line. Donations processed by credit card will appear on your statement as “Fund for the City of New York,” the organization to which you have made the donation, as Fund for the City of New York is the Museum, Arts and Culture Access Consortium’s 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor.

Upon receipt, all donors will receive a follow-up letter that will serve as a receipt for tax deductions.  Many thanks to you for your contributions and support!
